"Thank you for posting this - I love it, and it brings back SO many wonderful memories of being a young believer. I heard Agape in England in 1978, I think it was at a European WOW festival?? Dr. was there, and Uncle Harry, and what they said and the teachings were translated around the room in at least seven languages. I was living in Sussex, where I been as a Christian-Social Service volunteer the summer of 1976. I knew I wanted to live my life for God, and planned to become a pastoral counselor...I had been accepted as a student at a seminary in Massachusetts (Andover Newton Theological Seminary), planning to start in Sept of 1978. BUT GOD had other plans, and I went to a twig fellowship in London once and again...then to this...then to my first Rock of Ages in 1978. You know the rest :-)
I remember this song, and the words, "searching the scriptures"..."living our lives the only way we know possible," and how that burned in my heart as I wanted to believe God, not just go through the motions.
Believers were such a beautiful contrast, filled with God's love and power....raised my vision for a lifetime.
...........Still pressing on the upward way!"

"Wow! I forgot how incredibly talented Bo was (well, all of Agape was very talented)! I remember hitchhiking with Bo and Val. Bo had his penny-whistle. He'd entertain us while we were waiting to be picked up in the middle of nowhere! What a scene! What great memories!

Thank you so much for posting. One of my all time favorite songs... tender, sweet... a reflection of solidarity in God's love."

"Oh my goodness - my heart lurched looking at this, and seeing these dear old friends :-) I joined Agape later that year. There were 10 of us by the time we got to make the record at New Bremen in 1978 (all pictured on the front of the record).

The 'fella to the far right' is David Thomas! His then wife Ruth helped write that song. He and Ruth were in the 9th corps along with David Bailey. Don went into the 8th (he and Dave Bailey are on here somewhere!) Henrik (Bo) and Val went into the 10th, along with later members John Alton, Alison Smith and Cathy Capewell. Our drummer was Mark Anderson (brother of Karen Moorhead - 7th). I held out until all my friends had gone in the corps and eventually went into the 13th!

We performed at the Advanced Class at Emporia in 1978. I would love to find any clips of when the 10 of us were together. :-) "

I don't recognize the fella to the far right..."

    Thank you."

  • This was filmed live 32 years ago at an event called PFAL '77 at Ball State University in Indiana. I believe it was a two week event and as many as 4,000 attended as I recall.

David Bailey is the Agape member who introduces these songs. All these performers eventually went into the 9th Corps, I believe, while Don Macmillan went into the 8th Corps. Maybe Don or David (who are on this site) can give more details and names and how this group came to be. I am not sure if the other three performers are on this site.

I was in the audience at PFAL '77 and remember hearing Agape for the first time. This song stood out for me. They were one of the short lived groups but they were very good in my opinion.
