About Me
I am living in North Carolina after having lived in California for about 20 years. I am fortunate to still have Lyn Neal Morrison (11th) as my wife. She is sexy, beautiful, and a great believer. I have two great sons, Nick 20 and Mike 15.
My Interests
Besides trying to diligently seek God on a daily basis (I'm not trying to sound "religiously correct" here, it's just that I have found that I'm either seeking or drifting away. Since drifting away doesn't offer me much, I am trying to seek). I also am into mountain biking, a sport I just picked up in the last year (because my knees are funky). Mountain biking is an adrenaline rush. We went to the Blue Ridge Mountains three times this summer to let me race down. I only planted my face on the trail once!!!
Employment or Career
UPDATE: I presently work for the FDIC - the people who insure the banks - in an elite section called the Professional Liability Group and Financial Crimes. When a bank is closed, we go in with investigators and determine if the bank's failure was due to the negligence or fraud of the directors, officers, accountants or attorneys and if so, sue to recover the losses from the individual or their insurance. When you read about a bank failure on Saturday morning, we went in Friday night to take over the bank and get it ready to reopen by Monday morning so that depositors can get their money. We are the reason that there are not runs on the banks. We are the financial "EMTs" rushing to the scene of a badly injured bank in order to stop the injury from spreading to every other bank. It is exciting and intellectually challenging and I believe what I am doing helps keep the American economic system afloat. It is a federal agency, but it is the only one that is totally supported by no tax money.
BACKGROUND: I had a law firm in California. Early on, Bryce Shirley and I were partners, then he moved on to work for Pepsi. Later I partnered with a great believer from Puerto Rico named Manfredo Lespier (he also plays a judge on the Spanish language TV show Divorcio Court or something). I then became Chief Legal Officer for Peter Coad's company TogetherSoft located in NC. That professionally was the best time in my career. Pete is absolutely brilliant and I got to work with many great people including Judy Coad (my officemate), Randall Michek, Frank Baker, Art Poling, Gary King , Don MacMillan and others. The company was bought out in 2003 and then I became president for a time of Dale Cain's software company. I then sued NC for the right to practice law here, and the case went to the US Supreme Court. I now practice law in Raleigh doing injury cases, class action construction defect cases, and more. I also have a realtors license.
Music I Like
UPDATED: I really like country music best now: Zac Brown, Taylor Swift, Toby Keith, Brad Paisley, etc. I can see where Dr. Wierwille was trying to go with High Country Caravan.
Classic Rock (Zeplin, Lynard Skynard), Blues, and now Country Rock (Toby Keith, Brad Paisley, Willie, etc)
Books I Like
Freakonomics, detective novels, etc., but I don't like John Grisham novels about attorneys because they are SO implausible.
Television I like
Earl (reminds me of people I knew in Indiana), 2 & 1/2 Men (reminds me of people I knew in California)
Movies I like
Comedies, and some action stuff, but the last Die Hard was overboard. Come on, Bruce Willlis wrestles a jet after jumping off his moving semi-trailer
Sports Teams I like
College Sports. This place is college crazy with Duke, Carolina, Wake Forest, ECU, NC State. The pros are too polished. The kids can win any game on any particular week.
Comments
And regarding Bloomington, we weren't the ones with the Beowulf who crapped on the wall! And on the coffee table! Poor BIll.
You mean we were supposed to stay home all night??? I think we may have been in the front yard, passed out or stargazing.
And like I always told my mom, it was all Connie's fault.
Thanks for the info on Bob Leadman. Ted Ferrell beat you to the punch with his phone number. We've made contact. I appreciate your efforts.
As I was reading your remarks about yourself, I noted your statement about seeking God, which struck a similar chord in me. In reflecting on your comment, I thought of two things. I recalled the lyrics to a song popularized by Sandi Patti, but I remember first hearing at the church I was a part of in Fayetteville, NC (great state, as you well know). Here are the lyrics to "Seekers of Your Heart" which I think you will appreciate:
Until we give You first play
Until we let You begin
To fill us with your spirit
Renew us from within
Nothing matters
Nothing's gained
Without your Holy presence
Our lives are lived in vain
Chorus
Lord we want to know You
Live our lives to show You
All the love we owe You
We're seekers of your heart
Because your heart was broken
Because You saw the need
Because You gave so freely
Because of Calvary
We can now be
Called your own
Complete creations
Filled with You alone
Repeat Chorus
The second thing I thought of was a passage from Psalm 27, my all-time favorite, having learned it by heart when I was in grade school: "One thing have I desired of the Lord, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life." The Psalmist goes on to say, "When you said 'Seek my face,' my heart said unto you, "Your face, Lord, will I seek."
From one seeker to another, may you continue to be blessed and rest assured that everyone that seeketh, findeth (in the good old King James English).
Thanks, again, Steve,
Lonnell
Tell Lynn that I said "hi". DOes she still play pranks? We used to pull her into them. Tell her that I met with Linda West Medina at Va. Beach a few years ago. She has a beautiul daughter.
And how are you doing, my friend?
