  • Hi Steve. Truly only time for a comment, so no legal war story - sorry. I will tell you I was able to prevent the parents of a murder suspect from acquiring custody of our star witness, the 3 year old daughter who told investigators "Daddy killed Mommy" when they arrived, in Dependency Court yesterday. That was a fun change in pace for me. The attorney handling the case is out for the holidays and the Dependency Judge is also my Delinquency Judge, so they opted to have me make the arguments to leave the child's placement intact with the maternal grandmother and deny the paternal grandparents who are mortgaging their homes and have had over 100 phone calls with the accused visitation with the child. That would have been paramount to placing our witness, an impressionable 3-year-old child in the hands of the defendant. I mean this guy called the girl at least 30 times b/4 going over there; went over; argued; shot her and left and left this child (HIS CHILD) there with her dead mother. Like I said, a fun change of pace, but not what I do. I'll take my juvees any day.

I went to law school January 1992 and graduated Dec. 1994. Took Fla. Bar Feb 1995 and sworn in May 1995.
  • Hey Steve,
So good to see your face in the photo. You look great as usual. I havent had much time to get to saying Hi to all the Corps I've missed over the years, but I am glad you wrote because I have been wanting to say hi to you.
Do you ever see Elllie Ray or Vickie Allen? They are in Raleigh too I think. I saw Vickie this summer at the Family Reunion at CFF. She looks exactly the same as she used to. Anyway, it sounds as though you have had an exciting life since I last saw you. I am blessed for you.

  • Good to hear from you Steve. To refresh your memory, Lori and I started with the 7th and graduated with the 8th Corps. I worked mostly on glass at the different root locales and Lori cut hair. I don't recall us ever working together while in residence. But, Im sure my lovely wife of 32 years must have cut your hair.
Enjoyed your "drifting or seeking" comment. How true it is.

  • Hi Steve (Hi Lyn), Thanks for the note. You're right about a child in college, but you know what that's like too.
Many regrets to Lyn about her sister. I wanted to find you somehow at the time. Give a call sometime, ok?

  • Aloha Steve,

I just want to thank you for starting up this site on finding people. I just found a wonderful friend after searching for 10 years via a Corps bro I didn't even know!!! That is so huge.
I loved reading your Interest section...that's not religious, that's just gut level reality! love you bro, beth
  • Hi Steve and God Bless you Big! This is my first time on this site, though Jack has told me about it. Today is Jack's Birthday! He is a youthful 59! We won't say what that makes me. We are so tremendously blessed here in Pace, Florida. Our boys will be coming in for Christmas, so, as you might imagine, life is very active right now in a wonderful decorative sort of way.

It was so wonderful to see you on this site! I truly enjoyed my time in the Corps with you. Jack and I need to get a scanner so we can get some pictures on the web. I've told Jack, but we rarely shop in the electronics department. Our oldest son, Johnny Ray, only recently convinced Jack to get a cell phone!

Speaking of Johnny Ray; he is married almost 6 years and in the Navy 6 1/2. He married his high school sweetheart. They have blessed us with our first grandson, Johnathon Riley who is now 16 months and our second, Joseph Ray, is on the way. Our youngest son, Jake is in California with his Uncle Jim learning to work on Jaguars in Jim's shop and attending auto mechanics school. Jake is 22 and Johnny Ray is 25 as is Lisa, his wife.

Jack talked me into taking up golf by buying me a set of clubs for Father's Day a few years back, so that has become our recreational activity together. We are abundantly blessed and would love to have you come visit and stay with us here in Pace anytime. Lonnie Nelson (8th Corps) and his wife, Vicki (9th Corp?) were just through.

Well, that's a little about us. We love God and continue to coordinate a fellowship in Crestview with some wonderful believers, including the parents of Jane Stokes,10th Corp: Howard and Arlene Stokes. What an inspiration they are.

By the way, what kind of law are you practicing now? I am an attorney practicing criminal law and specializing in juvenile prosecution, though I've also done defense work with juveniles and adults, but not for a number of years.

Well, Steve, keep holding It high,

So wonderful to hear from you and would love to hear more,

    Tina (Abrell) Wilson

  • Hey, Sandi. How refreshing to hear from you! You were the portrait of cuteness!! I would love to have a copy of my old teaching tape(s), and any other memorabilia of the Indiana days!

    Are you still in Indiana?
  • Steve,

Thanks so much for the gracious words of encouragement. I especially appreciate the comparison of my words to fine wine. May my life continue to overflow with the goodness of God. As the poet, I think of his life as "New wine/springing from an inner fountain blue/from the soul of a man/who swapped his lowdown blues/ for pure turquoise joys. . .

    Be blessed, my brother,

    Lonnell
