Ric Cox commented on John Richeson's video
"Gary, you're right.  I had a country band for about 6 years and felt my main job was to keep everyone turning down their amp.  I've never heard anyone tell even the best bands to turn up.  "

I agree with you.  The bond between some of us was like none other.  Recently, I went to Denver to visit my son with a Corps brother that wanted to visit a believer.  It was quite a road trip.  The believer had a car accident and had no car.…"

  • Bless you Ric! Great hearing from you man. Thanks for the invite, I might check it out. You look wonderful after all that you have been through. Hey, did you watch that Dallas game last night against Detroit. The Michigan fold are really upset over that game. Oh well, any given Sunday. Go Cowboys.

  • Ric,
Good to hear from you. I'm glad I made you laugh all those years ago. In our final year of residency someone came up to me and shouted, "Does EVERYTHING have to be funny?" I took the criticism to heart and decided I needed to be serious, because I thought that being cynical and funny would affect my credibility as a leader. In retrospect, now that we're away from that "mind-rape", I'm glad I had as much fun as I could. Let's see, I was a “converting” liberal guy from New Orleans who was struggling with his sexual identity living in a cloistered compound which was operated by a bunch of straight homophobes. The only alternative to humor in that setting would have been suicide! And that, my friend, wasn’t a far fetched consideration on a couple of occasions. Being from New Orleans, where celebrating life and exploiting fun is part of the culture, I had the perspective I needed to keep a sense of balance through those times.

I wasn't living in New Orleans after graduation because we were assigned to Waterbury, Connecticut, so I'm sorry but I don't have any memories of you being here. Too bad you passed up on the book opportunity; I guess there's still time to cash in on the idea. Although my fellow New Orleanians have taken quite a beating over the last 2½ years and I think most folks are tired of it. It’s hard enough living through the worst catastrophe in U.S. history, and still we’re bombarded from all sides with every negative comment and report that folks can think of. Despite the negative reports and opinions there are actually good people that live here who have wonderful lives, have successful careers, have raised healthy and intelligent children and who are genuine, loving and caring. Thanks for sharing your views and comments. It makes me thankful for the choices I’ve made. All the best to you Ric, Tommy
