About Me

Jean Flanagan (9th Corps) and I have been married for nearly 25 years. We have one daughter, Ashley, who is 24. She lives and works in DC. We have lived in Savannah for 20 years. We have continued our spiritual journey together and are very thankful for that. Personally my focus of late has been on having an intimate relationship with God through Jesus Christ and learning how to serve those loved of God. I am less concerned with "being right" than I am with trying to do the right thing and give back. I have a three fold motto by which we raised our daughter and I try to live; follow your passion, concentrate on who you are not what you do, and give back of the gifts with which you have been blessed. I purposely have not kept up with many of the former Wayfers primarily for my mental and spiritual protection. But I think perhaps enough time has passed to connect with people for whom I still care and love and who are a part of the Body.

My Interests

Politics, reading, gardening, woodworking, writing, photography, antique collecting, entertaining. I have stopped trying to figure out the answers and make the Bible fit. It doesn't. It's still a holy book to me, but not perfect. I want to understand more of this spiritual world in which we live and what we are to do to serve one another. My spiritual understanding has become, if it needs a moniker, more Eastern in flavor, having found much of the Westernizing of Scripture to seemingly rob of it of its earthy freshness. I endeavor to serve God with all my heart, all my phyiscal being, all of my thoughts, and all of my actions. But realizing I fall flat often. No guilt, but a quiet realization that the love of God superceeds my understanding. I have moved from being focused on my actions to be acceptable to God a accepting. So much of my former theology seemed based on fear of being right or wrong. Now I am much more at peace knowing that I cannot control my circumstances but by God's grace I can work through it and become ever more the person he has called me to be. I am less concerned about judging another's beliefs and more concerned with accepting that there is more to God and His ability to work than I will ever fathom. I have lost interest in the Way type of fellowship model to a great extent, but that is today and it could change. I do not want to lose what I learned because of a flawed model. But I don't want to try and recreate what I had. Much of my life in the past 20 years has focused on serving through my talents and that is most often on the community front. It allows me opportunties to interact one on one with others. I marvel at those of you that have been able to perservere and carve out ministries that serve others and your needs. Just please keep loving the unlovable and be open to anyone who needs and desires to be loved.

Employment or Career

After many years I went back to school and received two masters degrees, one in Public Health and the other in Health Services Administration. Currently I work on a contract basis for non profits, health care, and community organizations providing turnaround services, program development, assessments, research and white papers. Most recently I have accepted the executive director position with a struggling urban YMCA that serves a public housing area in Savannah. Great learning for this boy! Music I Like

Wide and varied.

Books I Like

Most biographies, and historical works, especially Civil War and WWII.

Television I like

A lot I say without shame. From crime shows to realtiy shows. Especially enjoy political analysis, and feel good shows. Pretty much avoid sitcoms.

Movies I like

Mostly the old ones.

Sports Teams I like

Green Bay, Bears, and Bo Sox. Tend to be swayed more by personality of the players than the loyalty to the team.

Dear Peter and Jean--
I, too, have not sought out old contacts, but Stanley Reahard exhorted me to check out this site, and I am very blessed by it.
Your comments resonated with me--it's certainly been a journey, post-ministry, but a good journey full of rich learning. It's all about fellowship with Jesus.
Your photographs are lovely, and so is your family. Last time I saw Ashley, I think she was 3!

Peter--so much for quick email responses!...yes, certainly, we remember you and Jean. You guys were always cheerful and encouraging to everybody. I don't recall the time that you refer to in your note, but amidst all the chapters of our lives, the overall journey has been a terrific ride with the Father and His family.

I believe that our greatest days are ahead of us...new "assignments," new exciting adventures in helping people meet the lord and big brother that they've searched for all their lives. There's as much hunger for truth out there as there's ever been. None of us have a "corner on truth," but just need to teach everything we know till we hear a trumpet. Nothing more fulfilling to me.

Our little home fellowship continues to bless us more than about anything we do. Simple, healing, genuine.

Love the photos...color, texture, contrast, richness. Great to be introduced to your Ashley on your site. Love to Jean. Your family looks terrific.

Peter,

Your face looks so familiar to me, yet as I looked at your resume, the only times our paths crossed was the one year you were at HQ 83-84. I was there until '84 as corporate counsel then I left and went to California to run a branch. One other possibility: I taught a few classes at Emporia, most notably, Biblical Research Writing with Rob Luckadoo, Renee ??, and probably someone else (my memory also fades with time). Perhaps we met then.
