Hi Nancy. This is your old buddy Steve Ladieu. Sorry, but we live near Seattle and... the Mariners are in the same division as the ... A's! Ouch! I trust that holy spirit is thicker that team spirit, so how are you? (Can you belive that Canseco and McGuire were juicing? Makes you want to get our money back for the tickets from those old teams.) It was so nice to hear your voice last year on the phone. We have so many wonderful memories of you and your family in San Leandro. I remember one day Skip and I going for Bar B Q in Oaklqnd in some neighborhood off 14th ave and I thought I would die in the first "BBQ drive by shooting". Skip takes us to this old nasty house in a run down neighborhhod and walks straight in the front door. I thought, "This guy's got cahones! Hope he knows this family!" Then I'm shocked to find there's no furniture in the house, just a hole cut into the sheet rock where you order BBQ. The smell was ...WOW! Skip gave me that "Told ya" smile and it was off to gastro-intestinal heaven. Great BBQ - with real 'east bay grease'. Great memories. Remember the All star game when you sat next to Bret Saberhagen's wife? You always had a way to be in the right pace at the right time. Tell Skip howdy. Congrats on Grand parenthood. I look forward to entering that club one day. God Bless, Steve Ladieu
Hi Nancy! How are you, Skip, and the kids? I have such good memories in the Bay Area with you guys and so many other believers. I loved our visits together. Are you still working on that man of yours? I am...Lord knows he's un-trainable, a barbarian! Just kidding. We're doing great and thank God for it. If you and Skip ever make it to Seattle, please know you have a place to stay. Steve and I would love to spend some time with you. God bless you.
Wow.. ok I felt old until you told me that Tiffany has kids.. Added to my age there.. haha I am glad to hear everyone is doing so well.. I will have to add pictures of my kids..
I meant to comment after I received your message sometime ago. Just as you have thought of Brenda and me, so have I thought of you and Skip. I published a collection poetry called STONE UPON STONE: PSALMS OF REMEMBRANCE, and one of the poems that I sometimes recite was inspired by one of Skip's musical compositions. Here is a copy of "We Be Brothers" which always brings to mind wonderful memories of bygone days along The Way. I was so glad to hear that things are going well for you and your family and that you are "triply blessed" with your grandchildren. Give my love to Skip.
Always,
Lonnell
We Be Brothers
“Spirit is thicker than blood.
Oh, yes, it is, brother.” Skip Mesquite
songwriter, saxophonist
men born again in brotherhood
beyond thin skinship of the soul
not blood but spirit makes us kin
we be true brothers, brother-man
I dig your gig, so rap to me
and play the sounds I need to hear
tune me in and play my number
just call me on your saxophone
soothe my soul with those mellow notes
flowing from your horn of plenty
man, make your heartsong melt my dark
and paint my skies in sunrise hues
I can escape the basement gloom
to scale the palace stairs with you
we climb to where the air is rare
we be true brothers, brother-man

Hey Nancy - God bless you - it was great to hear from
you - To this day I am still learning from those 18 months
with TAKIT - I still communicate with Dan & Randi and
have seen them 3 times in the last 4 years when we've
gone to Ca to see family - Yes I have 2 kids, 17 and 13
full of school and activities - I have been self employed
for 26.5 years in the cleaning trade and am going to see
it through until retirement which will be in about 4.5 yrs.
We (Lynn and I and kids) live in Atlanta and love it.
Saw the Tower of P in June here and they were the
best I've ever heard them - may they keep it up until
age takes them out - spoke to DG briefly after the
concert but with my hair short and grey and the time
priocess, I'm not sure he really remembered who I was
It had been 26 years...my e-maikl address is
willgrove@bellsouth.net - send me some pictures
and I'll do the saem - Give Skip my best - love you,
Willy G
