  • Jerry - defense is really his strong suit. I have been kind of surprised at his offense so far this year. During his freshmen year he really hit the weight room hard and picked up about 15 - 18 pounds. He never came close to a HR last year but hit some in fall ball and has one (and a couple almosts) this year. His "pop time is about 1.8 - 1.9 and he has good footwork.
  • UPDATE on the Ellsworth Baseball team. The season is off to a rocky start. Sam has been splitting time with another sophomore catcher so far. His game time is increasing though. The team is 1 - 7 so far. Sam has played in five games and started two (one of which was their lone win). At bat so far he is 2-6, with 4 walks, 1 sac fly, 1 HR (a grand slam), 7 rbi, plus reached on an error once too. He is much strong offensively this year than last - so his game time is increasing . They are playing today in Louisiana at LSU-Eunice (weather permitting).

  • Yes indeed, those are all familiar names. Now that I've done the math, I think I was in Kansas City in 79-80, then Columbia the year after that. But your names are so familiar, I'm sure we met at limb functions or something. Enjoyed your slide show, nice pics!
  • Hi! Jerry and Margie - I live in Columbia, MO. I saw your posting on Pat Schreiner's site. I was in residence with her husband in the 15th Corps. I am originally from Vermont and spent much time with Rob and Clarissa Neumer, 9th Corps. I have not heard from them in years. There are a number of Corps Grads that live in Columbia, MO. Gil & Susie Heckel, Jeff Schuyler, Ken & Deanna Rupp, Scott & Jen Rachow. God bless - Donna Abney
  • Hi Jerry, thanks for your nice greeting. Seems like we have crossed paths. I think I lived in Columbia in 79-80. I was Pat Powell back then. It was either Columbia or Springfield. Aric is also from MO and lived in Columbia when he was going to MU, and he also worked on Limb staff. Aric and I married at HQ in 1991, moved here to be closer to home (St. Louis) and have been here nearly 10 years. It's a great town! Yes, we hang out with the Heckels quite a bit.
  • I grew up in L.A., but my favorite player growing up was Jim Rice. Then, because we had a couple of PFAL grads playing for New England it became easy to root for them (and it was finally rewarded in 2001!). I was never too much into hockey though. And, I'm not a Kobe Bryant fan at all, so it was easy to root for the men in green during the NBA finals.
  • Jerry - we get a lot of enjoyment out of the lives of our kids that is for sure. Sam does pretty well, especially defensively. Over the winter he got his coaching certification and will work this summer as the 8th grade coach in our local school. (In Iowa high school baseball is a summer sport). It works for me - ball games in the spring and the summer. Plus we have minor league affiliate of the Angels in town too.

  • Hi Jerry - I put a few pictures of Sam playing for Ellsworth on the site. The season is off to a poor start for them - too bad. Their field still has snow on it so they have not gotten too much good practice in.
  • Jerry that is very interesting. Bill and MIcheal Steinberg were very close freinds in the 16th corp. we had too much fun together ! Just wanted to say Hi ! love your pictures sally
  • I rarely go on this site but had gotten a friend request from someone who I was a fellow laborer with in Ky many, many years ago. After dropping her a note I decided to add a few photos and the one of my son kept coming to mind, even though it is 3 yrs old. So glad you saw it. Jonathan is in the 72nd precinct, Sunset Park area. He and Cindy live in Staten Island. How long has your son been on the force? Jon seems to love being a NY cop, although I have yet to see the appeal, I am none the less very proud of him. I see you are a Yankees fan like myself. I just bought tickets to an Orioles/Yankees game and Orioles/Twins game in Baltimore. Robert is a big Twins fan and the Orioles play the Twins 5/7 then the Yankees 5/8. What a difference between the prices for those two games!! Yikes! Lets keep in touch! Darla
