About Me

I am very happily married to Mark Howley, 14th WC, since July 6, 1986. We still love and serve God. We have two wonderful kids who are Eph. 3:20. Joanna Abigail, (1988) a college grad (psychology SCL)and John-Mark Simpson,(1991) at Urbana University (double major, history and education). We have 3 cats, Jingle Bell, Jessie and Katie.

My Interests

I garden and sew. I still cut an occasional head of hair or stink up my house with a perm, but for the most part am no longer a professional cosmetologist. I love to read and I enjoy nothing better that to have a quiet night at home curled up with my favorite fella ,and best friend, in front of our fireplace. Both my kids were identified as having special needs early in their lives, and while I was learning about them and advocating for their rights, I learned to help other parents of children with disabilities. This has become my professional focus. As a family, we are all Disney fans and we go to WDW as often as we can afford. Mark and I think we like it so much because it reminds us of being at the Rock ( hot , crowded, fun and you meet really great people there). The kids love it because it is Disney. We have had some great vacations . Mark and John-Mark both love history and they are Civil War re-enactors. They belong to a regiment from Lima Ohio and they are planning a trip to Gettysburg to partake in the huge re-enactment there.

Employment or Career

I am employed as an Parent Mentor for the education of children with special needs, a mentor to parents and a consultant to schools. I provide support, information and training and function very much as a mediator. I also am a puppeteer with 5 puppets with special needs. I go into schools and colleges and work as a Disability Sensitivity and Awareness Trainer. I also am a mentor/tutor for a program that works to build academic and employment skills for youths at risk.

Music I Like

Just about anything. Rick Springfield is big in this house. I went to see Chiago and The Doobie Brothers. They put on a great show. I still love Carly Simon, and lots of 80's music. My daughter is a huge Duran Duran fan so we hear a LOT of 80"s music. I have taken her to see Duran Duran and she loves Rick Springfield so I have taken her to see him several times.

Books I Like

The Bible of course. I read biography, some fiction. I like classic literature. I've read almost all of Agatha Christie's novels and some Elizabeth George. All of Jane Austen, the Bronte's, Some of Dickens. Now that I have a Kindle and can get the classics for free! I am fascinated by what makes people tick. That is why I like biographies. I've read a ton of those and I like it when there are several to read about a person so I can get different perspectives. Of course I have lots of gardening books to torture myself with. All those beautiful gardens impossibly perfect. You just know that they had a team of gardener's there to make it just so, but I like to dream that I can do it too.

Television I like

Downton Abbey, Britcoms. I like the Big Bang Theory. If we have time and there is nothing we care to watch, we slip in a DVD. We are all movie buffs, especially old movies.

Movies I like

Romantic comedy. Some drama, Classics. I saw Lincoln most recently with my family. Recently seen : The King's Speech, Music and Lyrics , The Queen, The Lion in Winter, Carolina I am not keen on horror films. I had enough horror in my life before the Word.

Sports Teams I like

My son in the band at Urbana University (Go Blue Knights) so I go to those games. I live near OSU so I am a Buckeye. I am still not a fan of professional sport. My heart was broken by the Minnesota Vikings in the 70's and I have never recovered.

YOu are all in my prayers, I loved Carol so much, she and I were in residence togeather and same twig at Rome City for two blocks. What a saint she was!

Hi Jaqcqueline, I posted pictures of my dogs on my page. Both of my dogs were adopted from animal shelters so I am not sure how old they are. From the original vet estimates, Lucy, the pom, is probably 13 or 14 years old. Cookie, the chihuahua is probably 10 or 11. When Lucy and I walk, people ask what kind of a dog she is. I like to tell them she is a Tasmanian Pomeranian. She spins around when she gets excited, so what else could she be?. Cookie fits the description of your aunt's dog. She has the chihuahua glare that some mistake for laser beams. She loves me, but hates most other people. She has made exceptions to her hatred of humankind policy for my youngest sister and my best friend. I will have to get a good picture of my cat, Emmett, and post it. I got him when he was a kitten. His mother had been hit by a car and my friend found him on the road next to her. Of course my friend knew I could not resist an animal with that sad story. I know he was born in 2005, and the vet estimated he was born in August of that year. Well, enough rambling about my family.

(Yes, we're still here in Fl. after 23 years and lovin' it, but missing the snow occasionally). Mark, Tallahassee has grown so much you wouldn't recognize it. The saints here remain sweet and precious! Isn't our God great!

Hi again dear.
I am just so blessed to be able to chat with you and all my friends from back when.....
My Marv kitty...lol...all Siamese with the attitude and all. But on HIS terms, he will settle in on my lap and be so sweet. Very lazy. He goes outside on a leash and so in the winter he gets very bored. Loves to sit under the tree in warm weather and chase the birds as they go to the bird feeder.
Arent they wonderful???

I am glad you have protected those kids. That's your job. That and getting that foolishness out of them.

I will probably calm down too. Mark sits with you while you play in here. Too funny. Please, he isn't still shy is he? Hey Mark, a cat named what? Please explain and tell me it's because the cat loves to chew pansy's.

We have two dogs and three cats.

Lassen and Ozzie are the dogs. And Pebbles, Baby girl and Monkee are the cats. Monkee's baby picture is in my photos, but he has turned out to not be a photogenic cat, I catch him midyawn, or eyes closing, and he looks all funky and not as handsome as he really is. He is sleeping in sun right next to me now.

Did you know that my honey, Ron and Mark Kamrath went to high school together? They got in the Word separately after school and they met up at the Rock I think. Isn't that hilarious? They told us of a fellowship a few miles up the road, said they were cool. At this point, if they ain't handling snakes and speaking in tongues out of order, I am good to go! God's Word is vital to my sticking around anywhere these days. My heart knows the truth when it hears it, doesn't yours?

Great hearing from you- what a lovely family you have. I enjoyed reading about your life. I am a resouce teacher in the public school system here in Michigan- one of the the greatest jobs in the world-working with special needs students. I switched over from teaching general ed to special education years ago and have loved it ever since. Isn't life great- thanks to God and HIs Word. Thanks for sending me a note.
