Closing The Way Corps Site

I will most likely discontinue this site due to the NING platform changing and, in my opinion, deteriorating. What started out as free in 2007 has now gone up to $69 a month starting October 1st. Read this link and especially read the comments below it from long time NING network creators. If anyone wants to take ownership of this site that can be arranged. Otherwise it will be cancelled soon. If no one wants to assume the responsibility that is understandable. Everything has its time.

Before this site goes away I recommend that you copy any items you may want from among over 7,500 pictures, hundreds of blog posts, memorial posts and other documents you may find. You can also make screen shots of any given screen you are on using Windows own Snipping Tool for example. I may continue the site for a few months to allow others to make copies.

I started this site about 9 years ago before FaceBook was a thing. The idea was to have a neutral place where a few of us could have some fun and socialize and keep in touch while leaving aside the all the usual religious bickering that would no doubt accompany a site like this. Whatever I did seemed to have struck a nerve at the time. There are almost 1,700 members on this site now including 2 new ones who joined today.

To The Way Ministry and President Rivenbark, I am sure you will be glad to see this site go away as it may be a reminder of your failures and mismanagement resulting in hurt that was caused to many good people. Managing this site has enabled me to collect a treasure trove of memorabilia including music, pictures, videos and documents from those bygone days. It seems you would rather discount them as "old wine skins" as you told us they were. I consider them fine wine. Maybe you are now the old wine skin? It is WE who made the good things and good times happen in our years in The Way Corps, in spite of you.

As site Administrator, I have been able to have personal conversations with people from across all eras of The Way Ministry. Many have moved on to other successful walks of life and are now enjoying their families, children and grandchildren. It's been so much fun to have this experience! I will forever treasure these moments on this site and will never forget some of the greatest people I have ever known.....that would be you!

  • Good news. Three people from this site have stepped up to work together to continue this site.

Click on this link to read the new discussion about the details of this transfer of ownership.

Therefore I am closing this discussion. Thanks to all you who shared. It makes a difference.

  • Wow. And I JUST found this site a few months ago, 2017.

I have been missing people. Felt so alone. Wanted to talk with

    fellow Way Corps.

I am so grateful that you made this site, something so wonderful for us.

    I will always be thankful.

I can donate to the gofundme, or let us know = paypal to your email possibly.

  • Thanks John - hope it can continue because there's nothing else out there like this.  It's a breath of fresh air.

  • That's good news John! Thanks for keeping it going for now. Look forward to hearing more!

  • Couple of developments have happened since my original announcement.

    1. NING backed off on their pricing of the 3.0 platform some due to people leaving. I believe they are under new management as well.
    2. Ning is allowing us older 2.0 sites to keep our sites instead of converting us to their newer 3.0 platform. This 2.0 site costs $20 a month while the 3.0 platform would be $40 a month. $20 a month is not bad. But I still want to pass on the ownership of the site to someone else, or let it expire if there is no interest.
    3. A Way Corps alumni from the 4th Corps is very interested in assuming ownership of this site.

So for now I am paying month to month until I hear more from him. I bought a few more months.

  • I was raised in Corpus Christi.  It's actually the only city named for the body of Christ.  Texas is a great place.  I've lived all over the U.S. and always knew I would come back here.  There's simply something I like about the wide open spaces.  Being able to drive for hours and not see more than a sprinkling of houses and ranches while imagining the people that explored the terrain.

    God bless you,

    Richard

  • That sounded likes a very sweet reunion. I thrilled at your recounting of it.

I remember what the Doc said in the early days - what makes The Way unique and God blessed above all else is the Love we have for each other.

I believe that to be true - and I used the present tense because love can't really die. It is eternal (1 Cor 13).

That love comes back when we see each other after so many years. Love has no age.

I took my 17 year old son tonight to The Power Rangers Movie. A lot of good principle in that movie. They couldn't morph into rangers with all their armor until they became one and until they loved each other. They were all broken in ways and they had to look past that. So many principles - see it!  My son really enjoyed it and said "Dad I grew up with the power rangers and wanted to be one.."

I see you live in Comfort Tx. I live up in the DFW area - that area down there is gorgeous. The Hill Country is so beautiful. When the original Spanish Ships came to the coast of Texas and sailed into Corpus Christie they thought they found The Garden of Eden because of its beauty, It is the only city named The Cross of Christ. Indeed the state of Texas is so blessed.

    Take care brother.

    Matt

  • Matt,

I agree with you.  The bond between some of us was like none other.  Recently, I went to Denver to visit my son with a Corps brother that wanted to visit a believer.  It was quite a road trip.  The believer had a car accident and had no car.  She wanted to go to a fellowship some 30 miles away.  So, on Sunday morning, we headed out unaware of what to expect.  We got to the top of the stairs in the Condo and a minute or two later, I saw a Corps sister I hadn't seen since graduation.  We were at Emporia when the POP was read days before heading to HQ for our final block and graduation.

She came over to me and hugged me like a brother that just came back from war.  We couldn't let go.  Tears were filling our eyes with thanksgiving for the blessing of seeing one another.  I had not expected this reunion and it made the grueling hours in the car worth every mile.  I would like to see more that are still trying to stand.  I once counted that between the 8th, 10th, 12th, 14th and 16th Corps and the AC and ROA, I probably knew about 5,000 people by name or face.  Each one had an impact on my life.

Perhaps we could find another moderator.  Or offer another website with a list of grads and their emails and cities and states.  I think someone with computer savy and the same love as John has had should step up.  I don't know enough about the stuff to volunteer nor do I have the time to moderate.  I suspect someone does out of 1700 of us.

    God bless

  • But there was undeniably something special about The Way Corps in my opinion. There was a bond between some of us like none other I have seen in my lifetime. Wasn't there a scripture about a friend closer than a brother?   (John Richeson 7th Corp,

This is the only place where there are 1700 plus Way Corp folks can in a heart beat connect.

For the life of me I can not understand why  every one of you won t fight and believe for this site.

    Show activity.

You all are part of a heritage that is rewarded in the end.

Please start posting and updating your pages.

Once this is gone it is gone.

It is not just  about you it is about  what we share togetherin a bond or bonds  that have no end.

  • Fellowship 1930 Empire State  I would love to have been there.
