  • Allright....to you then...#1. I have a hard enough time today with AutoCAD files and Architects revisions. HELP!

Where do I mail it? Flash drive sounds best from Kinkos. Sorry for the delay. There were some good foods in there.

  • raw potatoes have natural antibiotics in them so if you feel a cold coming always eat a few slices of raw potato. I also ate quite frequently in the basement of the BRC- all summer schools, adv. classes etc. when I went to HQ from cleveland area in 71,72- great memories of Dorothy teaching us to eat correctly and eating granola with apple juice or date juice.
  • Dean that is a funny story. I can understand your action. I disliked some of the stuff but some of it I liked. Others I never tried. I guess they are ok. Considering the pre-Internet time back then it was probably pretty innovative. She was pretty cool for her age.

My confession is I would sneak out to Sonic (was that the name?) in Emporia and pig out at every opportunity. When I lived at TWI HQ I splurged on Wooden Shoe Chicken and beer when I got the money. That was not Happy Eating it was "Heavenly Eating". I'm still pretty healthy.
  • I confess; I dislike most of the food in the 'Happy Eating' cookbook.

I purchased the book in 1974 and prepared every recipe from front to back -- an exercise in religion. I thought it would help me grow spiritually, which it may have.

Grace Bliss was a treasure, but she had no taste.
  • I agree Steve. Ira Hearne was a good man. I did not know him that well but got to work with him a few times. Again, one of those men who were ahead of their time.
  • You can just google "borscht recipes" and get some good ones, but maybe not the same as in the Corps.

Man, one thing for sure, we really ate well in residence!! Mmmm, mmm, mmm.
  • Does anyone have a recipe for borsh the beet soup dish. Not real popular for most but hey I wasn't popular either, yummmmmmmy
  • I worked in the WOW burger tent as the lead supervisor and yes they came out of the box as a frozen patty and once the blood juices came through the top it was time to flip it.

I do have a copy of "Happy Eating" and all of the recipes are still there.
  • Ira Hearne, IMHO, was a GREAT man. I'd give a left pinky and a right index finger for a copy of that original manuscript!
  • Excellent!

Back in the '70s Ira Hearne, one of the truly remarkable men I've ever met, wrote a book which included farming and other topics. It was given to Emogene Allen for publication and distribution through the Way Bookstore. A severely edited/thinned out version was eventually released. I never did find out if his daughter Nancy has a copy of the original manuscript. It was a great achievement that combined natural laws and the love of God. Hope it hasn't been lost.
