  • hey Steve..sorry about a 4 year later response, but yes that;s true, but I was hitchhiking from Richmond Virginia with one of my concubines at the time and we did get de railed and wound up in Raleigh North Carolina..and yes it was definitely God who prevented that little journey from going down

  • Steve,
That picture was taken backstage at the Fillmore durning the 40th aniversay
of the Tower of Power. There is a story to that picture. The end result was
"By His Stripes We ARE Healed".

  • Steve, I finally added that Uncle Harry Tribute you sent me. I had to shorten it and use Vimeo for hosting in hope that they allow it to remain. THey are reather picky about what they allow.

I will add more of your content when I have time. Especially that cool Way International Promo. That thing is awesome.....cheesy but awesome. smile.gif
They did an outstanding job considering the resources they had to work with back then.
  • Hey, Steve,

Back at ya, good brother. I was moved by the piece you had written. It communicated in a most effective manner. The desire to communicate the Word of God is often the underlying motivation for our efforts in written communication. Do you journal or put down your thoughts, not as a class assignment or for anyone else’s eyes, but simply to put your impressions on paper? I enjoy writing both prose and poetry, which I am especially interested in. As I was reading your essay, a couple of thoughts came to mind—first of all, I thought of those agonizing scenes from “The Passion of the Christ, where Jesus is scourged; those scenes then brought to my remembrance another one of my poems composed on Resurrection Sunday a few years ago. I thought you might appreciate the poem in light of the subject matter of your essay. I trust it will be a blessing to you as your work was to me.

    God bless,

    More Than Enough

    How much is enough?

Can you measure the length of each scar on his back?
Can you trace the depth of each gash and follow each track?
Can you extract and analyze sweat, like drops of blood?
Can you remove water and blood and then weigh the good?
Can you collect the tears and hold them in a vial?
Can you assess the shame and disgrace of trumped up trial?

    How much is enough?

One more mocking bow, one more man to spit in his face,
One more taunting gesture, one more mark of disgrace.
One more lash, one more gash, one more blow to the head,
As he endured the cross, despising the shame as he bled.
To smash once more, one blow short of certain death.
He cried, “It is finished” then yielded his last breath.

    How much is enough?

Who can assess the worth of his blood and establish a price
For the precious Lamb of God, unblemished, sinless sacrifice?
God’s bounty of mercy is sufficient. His deep love will suffice.
Despite the deficit, God balances each account to set it right.
Where sin once had free reign, now grace has abounded instead.
The Lord himself provided the Lamb, whom He raised from the dead.
In His gracious goodness Jehovah-Jireh reminds us
That He is more than enough, yes, so much more than enough.

  • Steve,

Thanks for the comments regarding the articles published long ago on doulos and “giving and receiving.” Those two themes still resonate from my soul today. I especially appreciate your comment that what I had written represented “outstanding communications of God's heart and Word!” The words you chose were especially meaningful to me, having just completed an oral communication class at the University of Phoenix Columbus Campus, where I also teach written communication courses as well. One of the objectives in both courses is to communicate so clearly that the listener/reader nods in agreement and states, “I see what you’re saying. . . I see what you mean.” You words meant more than I can say.
Today as I have been reflecting upon my life, as I celebrated my birthday, I happened to think of the concept of the doulos or bondslave, and I happened to think of a poem that I had written in commemoration of my 50th birthday, 17 years ago, and I recited the poem which I have learned by heart as a expression of my gratitude to God. In light of your remarks, I thought you might appreciate a copy.

Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts .

    God bless,

    Lonnell

    This Year of My Jubilee

    Exodus 21:1-6
    Leviticus 25:1-17

I stand alone, clothed only with the wind
At the end of my seventh sabbath year.
Gathering of blessings now flow through my mind
As the shofar’s call resounds in my ear
To proclaim this year of my jubilee.
I reflect upon the wonders of this grace
Wherein I stand, a bondslave now made free.
In this golden moment as I embrace
The truth and pledge to love as you command,
Pierce my ear--place your brand upon my soul.
Enlighten me so I may understand
That to run to serve is life’s highest goal.
Unfold before me pleasures of your ways
And seal my vows to serve you all my days.
