Dave Brubeck Honored at Kennedy Center

I was in the 7th Corps with Catherine, Mr. Brubecks daughter. We had a fun time and she had a great sense of humor. One of my fondest memories was hitchiking with her from Emporia to Headquarters. (She has her fathers constant smile.) We were from completely opposite backgrounds which made it all the more fun. I once met her famous father Dave Brubeck when he came for a visit to Emporia one parents weekend.

Tonight, her father, Dave Brubeck, was honored at the Kennedy Center along with the likes of Robert DeNiro, Mel Brooks and Bruce Springsteen. It was also Mr. Burbecks 89th birthday. I looked for Catherine but did not see her. I'm sure she was back stage and surely got to meet some of these awesome honorees and including President and Mrs Obama who were also sitting with the honorees. As I understand it they are big fans of his jazz.

Thanks David. Here's the video embedded. Jazz'd for Life seem like a great charity and well run too. I'm sure Catherine and Arne are sad to see the destruction that happened in Hati.

Here a link to the latest interview that Cathy and Arne did on there efforts in Haiti with Jazz'd for Life. Arne is scheduled to leave Sunday for a week. This was a regularly scheduled trip that they've now had to finagle ways to get into the country.

Having been there five time myself, I can say that that the infrastructure must be in shambles as it was in disarray when the country was in "good" shape. May the Lord use this for good and may your kingdom be increased Lord Jesus in the country of Haiti.

BTW, Catherine was there she told me that she really only got to spend some time with DeNiro and with Jack Black!!! They are both short is what she said. They did not know her brothers (except Chris) were all there until they came out on stage. Dave's response is "son of a b****1" He had been a bit peeved that the Lincoln Center had not asked them to play when they originally gave him the schedule. Nice birthday present, eh?

What a blessing to see Catherine and hear about her and Arnie's work, thanks for posting. Imagine growing up in a Jazz home? Yeah! You go Catherine!

Catherine looks great as usual. Howard Parthum directed me to this video. Thanks so much, Howard. It is on a NING network called "Redefining Christmas" I like the concept. Christmas has become so insane in my opinion what with all the unnecessary gift giving and commercialism.

I think the highlight of my father coming to my Corps Graduation was that Dave Brubeck, one of his favorite musicians, was there!
