  • Michael, You and Rhys on the open sea in a kayak, what nut!!! Sounds like something I would do. I just do it on the Detroit river. I had retired semi-like but have been helping my young cousin get his jewelry up and successful. I was fishing or hunting all the time or gardening, but this year i have been so busy I have not even gotten my fishing license yet. Hey, you are just over in Indiana at some point we have got to hookup. walternelson3@hotmail.com
  • Thanks Michael, glad to here from you. Been thinking about the consulting field also, but in the Non-Profit sector. Have a few meetings this week, and will see where it goes. There were fond memories at HQ. Trust you still fluent in Japanese. Take care.
  • I actually work for a company in Phoenix--TBD Consulting. Am editing some of their client work right now! Oops, better get back to work!
  • Hi Michael, So glad to hear from you, and glad you and Candi are doing well!
  • We rowed from Algies Bay. The larger of the islands we reached was Takangaroa Island. The smaller I think was a private island, and I don't know the name. If you click on the map on my previous post (below) you should see the two small islands east of the bay. The canoe might have leaked a little, but being an open top canoe at sea, water was always going to get in. There were buoyancy floats at each end of the canoe which meant that even filled with water, it would still remain at the surface, so it would be like sitting in a bathtub, but it could save your life out there. It's possible for two strong swimmers to right and bail out a capsized open canoe at sea in deep calm water. At the very least we should have rehearsed that before setting off. But in the choppy water of the channel, that would have been an epic task. Anyway, we were completely crazy to do it. We notified no one of the trip, had no life jackets crossed a minor shipping lane and a choppy current, and could easily have vanished without a trace. Youth! Yep, it's a great memory. But no, I wouldn't do it again!
  • Greetings ,

  • Hi Michael. Remember when we took that canoe out to the two islands off Algies Bay (You should see them to the east of the peninsula here - http://maps.google.com.au/maps?q=algies bay)
Do you have any idea how dangerous that was? Especially with no life jackets and an idiot like me on board...!

Good to see you around. Love to all the family.
