"Rob,
First Waldo and now Haiku! Haiku is the ancient Japanese form of poetry. 5-7-5 syllables per line is the basic form and a season/climate has to be mentioned some how -hence sun, sand and sea.
I am writing and singing show tunes- how great is the…"

  • Hi, Leigh! I don't know if you will remember me, but I just saw your name on the website and wanted to say hello. This has been such a great blessing... being able to touch base with old friends.
  • Okay, so I got out my Haiku book I got in Japan and here is the offical defination: "For haiku in English an overall form consisting of seven accented syllables plus unaccented syllables up to a total of of about twelve, would yeild the rhythemical structure native to English and at the same time approximate the duration of traditional Japanese haiku. A major grammatical pause between the second and third or fifth and sixth accented syllables would provide the sense of dividion created by the Japansese kireji"
OMG- let's just go get a cup of tea instead!!!
  • I read up on Haiku...I thought it was 7 5 7, hence my first poem trying it. Must'a misread the article (Winkepedia).

Glad you are writing music and listening to mine. If you need a lyricist let me know. Church and Agsten doesn't quite have the ring that Lerner and Lowe has, or Oscar and Hammerstein, but we could make it work somehow.

A lot of that music is from 50's and 60's Broadway shows ('cept the Loving Spoonful). I've been to a lot of recent shows, but the music just doesn't move me like these other tunes.

This site is addictive...I need to limit my time here. Well, maybe I am just getting my feet wet. Nope, seems I jumped in with my clothes on.

Keep teaching me. What's wrong with Dido? I know, the lyrics are too simple and, oh, shoot, what is the word I am looking for.....contrived!!! there it is.

    Rob

  • How about a little Haiku! for you?
    Don't you write fancy
Where the sun, sea and sand are
    Waxing poetic

    Namaste,leigh
  • Dear Leigh,

I may be older than you, and I always wish it to remain so.

What? You want me to move into poetry? That what you want? Oh, okay.

    A Poem for Leigh:
Short hair and sassy smile always found to be pretty,
Never said no to her and I had offers a plenty.
She's a counselor now, and probably earned it,
I practice engineering, and some say "Dad gurnded it!

Leigh is a peppy little gal,
and she hooked up with a land surveyor,
    He has gray hair now,
Andt he loves her for worse or for better.

Boulders may fall from the sky,
and the Oceans may crest upon the hills,
But, there is one thing fer' sure,
Leigh loves her Danny, and for that all is well.

Well, I'll work on that...not bad but i could do better. You have to live with it!
