Way Corp group(s) I was in
14th Corps
Where I live
Los Gatos, California
About Me
In The Way from 1980 to 1987, I used to be Carl Collar before I adopted the correct spelling of my ancestral name. I have two sons, 17 and 11, live in a great town and have a rewarding job. And I still dream I'm back in the Way Corps.
My Interests
I've written a few books, fiction and nonfiction, none published except the self-published "The Cult That Snapped: A Journey Into The Way International." I like to run and play tennis, am currently obsessed with online chess and have a strange fascination with Bible problems.
Employment or Career
Deputy graphics director at the San Jose Mercury News, where I've worked for 18 years. I do maps, charts, histories, illustrations and all kinds of
news graphics. Love the job because it's something different every day.
Music I Like
Next phase, new wave, dance craze, anyways, it's still rock 'n' roll to me. (Don't tell anyone, but I also like Eminem.) Occasional karaoke nut.
Books I Like
Anything by Henry Miller, Elmore Leonard, Carl Hiassen. Also an avid reader of books about the Bible: "The Harlot by the Side of the Road," "Misquoting Jesus," "The Five Gospels."
Television I like
"Family Guy," "Simpsons," "American Dad," "Futurama." Yep, I get all grown up and all I want to do is watch cartoons.
Movies I like
Mel Gibson may be a jerk, but I loved "Apocalypto." Ditto the recent "King Kong." And "The Departed," and "Babel," and "Pan's Labyrinth." Not to mention "The Devil's Backbone" and "Amores Perros."
Sports Teams I like
S.F. Giants, San Jose Sharks, USC Trojans, and I'll always have a place in my heart for the Arkansas Razorbacks.

Nice to hear from you and hope I do again.
Your face is familiar to me, but I can't quite place it. You were 14th I was 12th. Did we cross paths in Emporia your first year in residence?
I love you! Isn't this just the neatest thing? Finding all our old friends. Do you still have doubt about things?
Whats up?
It's me your old buddy that tried to save you from going into the Ways Corps in the first place. You know, I'm the guy you devoted an entire chapter to in your best selling book "TCTS."
You ruined my life man...now the entire world knows how much of a tyrant I was...Ha.Ha. Good for you...I suppose your expose helped a lot of folks out of their funk.
By the way (no pun intended), the 250 pound (benign)tyrant died a long, long time ago.
Jane and I are still in Arkansas on the same five acres. Since I retired I am busy growing and selling organic produce, eggs and beef on the hoof. It's a blast.
This coming May will be our 25th Anniversary and we are going to celebrate in the Holy Lands on a ten day tour. We are expecting a memorable experience for sure.
I have also enrolled in the local Community College where I am studying writing skills. I have been writing stuff for years on the computer and thought I should sharpen my passion. Perhaps I will write a book someday and devote an entire chapter to you. Or we can work on one together - that should be good. The Beast and his victim working on a project together.
I am happy to see that you and your sons are enjoying life and that you like your job and where you live.
Do you ever visit Arkansas? If so let me know and we can hook up.
All of our love and best thoughts to you.
Frank and Jane
Glad to hear you are doing well. I just found this site and am totally enjoying my trip down memory lane. What are you writing now. Let me know - I will buy a copy.
Take care,
Pamela Small
I don't remember if we ever met, but I did appreciate your book. Tough read but it served as a "Let's get real" call. It was helpful to me to sort some things out. I was able to let go of stuff, delusions that needed to be burst.
I just found this site a few days ago. I love it . I probably would not have gotten to tell you thank you with out it.
After the "prove all things" , it is delightful to " hold fast to that which is good." This is part of the good - reconnecting w/ many of my favorite people on earth. Even though there was good and bad, some "very bad", there was some "very good" that I hadn't defined how much I missed until finding this site and reconnecting. I was in the Way for over 25 years- 1964 - 1990.
For better or for worse, it is such a huge part of my history. I found my way back to my "tribe", older , wiser, not so vulnerable or gullible, less idealistic but still, more grateful for the love and good that was given to me and for the things I learned.
Thanks for contributing, it was very courageous, in my opinion.
Sincerely,
Elizabeth
Haven't emailed you in a while. Glad to see you on the sight. Fondly, Jacqueline
Good to see you here. I'm teaching the Adobe Creative Suite these days in Texas which I'm sure relates to your work.
