About Me
I am very happily married to Mark Howley, 14th WC, since July 6, 1986. We still love and serve God. We have two wonderful kids who are Eph. 3:20. Joanna Abigail, (1988) a college grad (psychology SCL)and John-Mark Simpson,(1991) at Urbana University (double major, history and education). We have 3 cats, Jingle Bell, Jessie and Katie.
My Interests
I garden and sew. I still cut an occasional head of hair or stink up my house with a perm, but for the most part am no longer a professional cosmetologist. I love to read and I enjoy nothing better that to have a quiet night at home curled up with my favorite fella ,and best friend, in front of our fireplace.
Both my kids were identified as having special needs early in their lives, and while I was learning about them and advocating for their rights, I learned to help other parents of children with disabilities. This has become my professional focus.
As a family, we are all Disney fans and we go to WDW as often as we can afford. Mark and I think we like it so much because it reminds us of being at the Rock ( hot , crowded, fun and you meet really great people there). The kids love it because it is Disney. We have had some great vacations .
Mark and John-Mark both love history and they are Civil War re-enactors. They belong to a regiment from Lima Ohio and they are planning a trip to Gettysburg to partake in the huge re-enactment there.
Employment or Career
I am employed as an Parent Mentor for the education of children with special needs, a mentor to parents and a consultant to schools. I provide support, information and training and function very much as a mediator. I also am a puppeteer with 5 puppets with special needs. I go into schools and colleges and work as a Disability Sensitivity and Awareness Trainer. I also am a mentor/tutor for a program that works to build academic and employment skills for youths at risk.
Music I Like
Just about anything. Rick Springfield is big in this house. I went to see Chiago and The Doobie Brothers. They put on a great show. I still love Carly Simon, and lots of 80's music. My daughter is a huge Duran Duran fan so we hear a LOT of 80"s music. I have taken her to see Duran Duran and she loves Rick Springfield so I have taken her to see him several times.
Books I Like
The Bible of course. I read biography, some fiction. I like classic literature. I've read almost all of Agatha Christie's novels and some Elizabeth George. All of Jane Austen, the Bronte's, Some of Dickens. Now that I have a Kindle and can get the classics for free!
I am fascinated by what makes people tick. That is why I like biographies. I've read a ton of those and I like it when there are several to read about a person so I can get different perspectives.
Of course I have lots of gardening books to torture myself with. All those beautiful gardens impossibly perfect. You just know that they had a team of gardener's there to make it just so, but I like to dream that I can do it too.
Television I like
Downton Abbey, Britcoms. I like the Big Bang Theory. If we have time and there is nothing we care to watch, we slip in a DVD. We are all movie buffs, especially old movies.
Movies I like
Romantic comedy. Some drama, Classics.
I saw Lincoln most recently with my family.
Recently seen :
The King's Speech, Music and Lyrics , The Queen, The Lion in Winter, Carolina
I am not keen on horror films. I had enough horror in my life before the Word.
Sports Teams I like
My son in the band at Urbana University (Go Blue Knights) so I go to those games. I live near OSU so I am a Buckeye.
I am still not a fan of professional sport. My heart was broken by the Minnesota Vikings in the 70's and I have never recovered.

I need chocolate.....
What a treat to hear from you. If I could figure out how to post pictures I would, but I am the opposite of a techo-geek, no skill, no natural ability at all. But the job you have means so much to me. What a blessing you are to so many.
Your children are beautiful, so much like you and Mark.
Please give Mark my love as well.
Joy
Hope you're enjoying all that Duran Duran. Give Pansy Periwinkle a scratch for me.....
Happy Sunday,
Karl
I like Renaissance Fairs, I dress up like an Elizabethan minstrel called Jethro Tooth and play a pipe!
I also belong to a gild of Shakespeare players called the Arden Shakespeare Gild. I live in an area very rich in both Revolutionary and Civil war history. In fact, Lafayette and Gen Washington had a meeting in back of my house (around 1777) to discuss the upcoming battle of Brandywine in Chadds Ford PA. We've got re-enactors milling about down at the 18th Century mill all the time. Here's a video with my pipe music, percussion and animal noises and photos.
What a beautiful family you have!
In regards to your remarks about the past, yes, I now appreciate all the jokes and all the fun back then. I remember one incident at H.Q. when after a meal someone approached me in the dining room and smuggly asked "Does everything always have to be funny?" I became very serious after that and curbed the jokes, but it wasn't long before my true nature came shining through once again. In retrospect and in light of all the drama that followed in our Corps history I'm so thankful that I kept that sense of humor and had as much fun as I could. I get messages like this frequently and it makes me feel good about what I left behind. I've made it a point to mantain that sense of humor in my life because the rewards are so profound. Thanks for bringing those 'sweet' memories back. Tommy
Great to hear from you! I'll pass the greetings on to Rose as well. I loved reading your biography. You've had a very fruitful life. I like cats too. Our cat Ally is very sweet.

How long ago do you think it was that we were writing a little bit? More than 5 years probably. I don't even remember how I got a hold of your email unless it was through greasespot?
In your listing of authors, I thought it was interesting you mentioned Elizabeth George. There was an author I fell in love with years ago, and cannot find her books anymore. Actually, now that I think about it I think it was a similar name, possible Elizabeth Goudge or something like that. Not really sure, maybe it's the same person.
How you been. Busy, by the sounds of it. I have kids about the same age. Our oldest, Shana will be 20 in Nov, and is in her first year of the community college in our area. Our youngest, Nicole, born 3 years and 3 days later, is 16 and a junior like your son.
They both enjoy singing, and we all enjoy listening to them.
I used to be on here daily, but I found a new site that encourages writers which I had been spending a lot of time at until a few weeks ago, when my husband went into the hospital. Ended up, he had a by-pass on his upper thigh. He'd be out of the hospital by now except they found out he was low on iron and thought he might have a bug and want to make sure he's fine before sending him home.
So I'm busy, busy, busy.
Bye for now, good to see you here.
Love,
Marsha
