  It is wonderful to get to "see" you again! You know, I remember when you and Mark started getting serious in residence, what sweet memories, and you also did my hair a few times.

  I wish we could all see each other face to face. I would especially like to meet all the kids. All of them seem so great. What is Abigail majoring in? Does she know yet? Kathy is a coolege sophomore and is majoring in Social Sciences (history really) - she wants to teach at the high school level. She lives about 4 hours away and I really miss her.

  Gardening what a hateful pleasurable pastime!! We don't have the Japanese Beetles, we have the leaf rollers and delphinium worms. YOu will go to work, passing through the lovely garden, admiring the lush foliage and beautiful blossoms. Come back at lunch a scant 3 hours later (I make my own schedule) and all you have to show is a bunch of stalks and a lot of fat worms from the pit of Hades!! On top of that, we do not have deer as you know them, we have huge freaking moose the size of draft horses that look on our gardens in much the same manner as we look on an exotic salad of imported delicate greens. The only problem is that they are not content with merely stripping leaves, they pull out the whole blasted plant, roots and all. It is kind of nice to have them wandering around the neighborhoods, but mostly when they are in someone else's yards! Fun working with garden clubs, isn't it? I was the de facto president of the bonsai club for the last ten years. I quit as of January, and lo and behold! Other people are doing the job!! HMMM! I wanted a chance to work on my own trees--I have more than 300, but they were looking like um... feces because I was always helping with other people's trees and too busy to play with my own. By the way, the way to not fiddle your trees to death is to have LOTS of them. You can never get to all of them.
  This is an incredible place to garden--the season is short, but the 20+ hours of sunlight in the summer peak makes the plants grow noticible every day. Everyone is into gardening (and killing large fish and animals). We never sleep much in the summer, and then hibernate in the winter. As Mae West said, come up and see me sometime! Or at least my garden...
  I was thrilled to see you join the site, I remember how much fun we always had together.
