Gary, do you remember me from Florida? Michelle Hershey...now Poccia.
In my box of TWI mementos (and this is a box of things that I treasure and fondle about once a year) there is a letter from you guys...This by no means is the equivalent of winning an award...but i just wanted you to know that you made it into my memory box.
Would love to share more with you...I will click to add you as a friend and if your email is there...I will email you.

I have been granted access to this site to find friends...while I was cruising around, I saw your name and had to get in touch.
It's a good life!

Your words touched me deeply as did my comments minister to you. Be assured that the blessing was mutual. I would be honored to have the words of my jubilee poem inscribed in brass. With regard to any of my writings on doulos available online, I don't know of any. Here is a link to an article which I published on my journey into teaching. One of the most significant experiences that led me into teaching on the college level was that of teaching New Testament at the Way College of Emporia for the first time back in 1976. The essay also contains some of the poetry that I've written as well.
God bless, my brother. Thanks for the kind words and fond memories. When I saw your name, I immediately knew who you were. When I saw your picture, I recognized you, and you looked very much the same as I remembered except for a few more pounds and a lot more gray hair, reflective of the increased wisdom you've acquired over your 80+ years. Yes, I recall the research paper you spoke of. As you can imagine the concept of the "doulos" or bondslave has likewise had an incredible impact upon my life as well.
I published the article you spoke of in The Way Magazine in 1975, and now in 2008 it still resonates from the depths of my soul. I don't know if you know Renee Hill, who married Ron Hill of the 6th Corps, but she gave me a tee shirt with "doulos" printed on the front. I wore it to bed last night as I thought of the single metaphor that I have used countless times in applying the Scriptures to my life in a personal way. I went on to discuss the "branded bondslave" or "doulos" in both my Master's thesis and Ph.D. dissertation. It is one of the more pervasive images in my poetry, indeed in my life. It is gratifying to know that your life made a difference to someone. Thank you for sharing how much the original article on "Doulos: A Different View of the Slave" meant to you when it was first published way back in the day.
In closing, I want to share a poem that touches upon one of the themes of the "doulos" and that is the Year of Jubilee. Next week is Renee HIll's 50th birthday, and I plan to share a copy of this poem with her. I thought you also might be enlightened and inspired. Thanks again for your words which blessed me so much.
Still serving the Lord after all these years,
Lonnell
This Year of My Jubilee
Exodus 21:1-6
Leviticus 25:1-17
I stand alone clothed only with the wind
At the end of my seventh sabbath year.
Gathering of blessings now flow through my mind
As the shofar’s call resounds in my ear
To proclaim this year of my jubilee.
I reflect upon the wonders of this grace
Wherein I stand, a bondslave now made free.
In this golden moment as I embrace
The truth and pledge to love as you command,
Pierce my ear--place your brand upon my soul.
Enlighten me so I may understand
That to run to serve is life’s highest goal.
Unfold before me pleasures of your ways
And seal my vows to serve you all my days.
Hi Gary,
We had a blast that year in Tampa.....Speaking of Sal, I got an email from him about a month ago. He found my email via the believer's link...I responded but have not heard back from him. I've been trying to locate Lisa. Bill, last I heard he was in California. I believe he's a lawyer. I spoke to Rita Fiorentino a while back and she mentioned him. He did attend my wedding with his wife Jean. I knew her, a very neat lady.
Hey, do you ever hear from Gerald Cunningham? He was a great friend.
Stay cool Mr. Gary....if your ever in Georgia you are welcomed here!

Saw your name and just had to say hi to you and Anne! We were together in Florida in the early 80's! I was delighted to see your beautiful family! From the pictures you posted, I'm sure there has been a lot of laughter in your home throughout the years. What a delight! I remember you both with great fondness and thankfulness to God. You have always been so rich in heart!
