"How about carrot-raisin salad? Or colon cleanse protein shakes? I seriously have traumatic memories of the things I had to eat as a child! Once, I was sick and Grace Bliss told my parents to make me eat a raw potato. Have you ever eaten a raw…"

"DUDE! I know! I was on the edge of my seat, even with a huge lead. Now we face Memphis, which is daunting, although I think we match up well. Time will tell...

What a wonderful blast from the past! There are few people I really remember from the Way, but you are one that I absolutely remember. I think I remember the "good ones!" :) I am still a closet deadhead, though now I am a soccer mom, live…"

  • Happy Birthday, Christine. Hope you're still lovin' the lord. I know that you must be missing your dear, sweet grandmother, as all are who knew her. Hope your grandfather is doing well. My wife, Janice, and I were in the Corps with you in 1974. Haven't seen you much since, but fondly remember you.

Have yourself an awesome day. God bless.

  • Happy birthday....again!
  • Happy birthday, Christine! I was in the 13th Corps at Emporia when you were probably about 12. I remember your mom talking about when you were about four and were in the Special Corps at Way HQ that she used to tell you to start crying so she could take you out and not have to listen to the long, boring lunch announcements ... pretty imaginative.
  • Happy Birthday Christine! Post a picture sometime. Those of us who have not see you since you were a kid would like to know what you look like now.
God bless you to the max!

  • Hey! Long time no see (actually about 20 years plus – way too long!)

You are probably wondering who I am (at least as far as my last name is concerned)…

Well, I used to be Joe Hanson.

(Depending on just how far back we go, you might have already figured that out!)

About 17 years ago, I had my name legally changed back to the name I was born with…

    Joseph Sebastian Purpura III

Although it is a very long story, Hanson was the last name of my then step-father Jim.

I had always expected that I would change it back some day!

There is much I can say (regarding what I have been up to) for the past 20+ years, but as to not sound redundant, just check out my info page (I just updated it with more stuff)…

    http://waycorps.ning.com/profile/JoePurpura

On that page, you will also find photos from “the good old days”!

I will be adding more and more pictures as I have time to scan them (so check back often – by the time I am done, there will be a large number of them – I AM TALKING DOZENS!).

I had pretty much lost touch with everyone from “the group” (that is, once I had moved to Seattle, back in 1987) and it had stayed that way…

That is, until I got a phone call out of the blue from Linus!

(It is quite the story how he got my phone number – his dad got a hold of my uncle – neither of us knew that they actually knew each other, let alone having each other’s email addresses).

Among other things, Linus told me about this “Way Corps” website.

Since speaking to Linus, I have also had a telephone conversation with Lester (Carver).

Him and his wife Vanessa (who by the way were married by Greg Bernardini, if you didn’t know) apparently have quite the brood (I forget how many, but I believe he said that they have like 5 or 6 kids).

He also told me that Lorenzo is the C.E.O. of a very large company out of Denver.

(And to think he went to the Berkley College of Music to become a musician – I wonder what happened?).

Lester and his family live in Indianapolis. If you want to email him (as far as I know, he is not currently on the Way Corps website yet), he is at…

    OH, BY THE WAY…

I just started this Blog (here on the Way Corps website). I call it…

JUNIOR CORPS STORIES (what really happened!)

It is my hope that you (and everyone else) will add stories to it!

    The Blog address is…

    http://waycorps.ning.com/profiles/blogs/junior-corps-stories-what#c...

There are only two rules concerning the submission of stories to this Blog…

BE THOROUGH and DEFINITELY DONT HOLD BACK!

(In other words, REALLY TELL IT LIKE IT WAS!)

I think you will enjoy reading the stories I have already posted (and keep checking back, I will be adding more stories as I have time for it).

Also, here is my address (I recently bought the house)…

    Joe Purpura
    301 East Birch Avenue
    Ritzville, Washington 99169
    (509) 659-0700

If you haven’t been to my info page yet, I just moved here from Seattle (that is after 22 years of being there), in part to concentrate on my writing!)

And my personal email address is…

    joe@joepurpura.com

(Just be careful who you give this email address out to – so far this address has been spam free and I would really like to keep it that way – THANKS!)

Finally, (if you can) please say a prayer for my sister Suzanne, she was hit by a car recently and has been the hospital (she has already had 4 operations on her leg)!

Although she is not on this website, you can email her (and I know she would enjoy hearing from you!). Her email address is…

    Suzanne.Belluardo@intusurg.com

You might also like to know that her and her husband Johnny just had their 2nd child (Michael) back in October (his older brother Matthew will be 6 in March).

Sue works in Robotics (the kind of Robot that surgeons use to operate on you). She started out as a Post-Open-Heart, I.C.U. Nurse (by graduating at the top of her class in Nursing School).

I AM QUITE PROUD OF HER!

I hope you have the time to either email, or post a message on my info page. I really look forward to hearing how things have been for you and yours.

    Later,

    Joe
