Way Corp group(s) I was in
Mini Corps F3, Junior Corps F7
About Me
When I was in Family 3 my name was Christian Christenson, and in Family 7 my name was Bo Hudson, but after my mom and Shane Hudson divorced back in the early 90s, I decided it was time to get the names straight and I stopped going by my nickname of Bo and changed my last name to my mother's maiden name of Abraham. I did used to have long blond hair but it started falling out on top when I was 25 and I've shaved it ever since. I've been with my wife, Debbie, since 1993 and we have a young boy named Julian.
Employment or Career
I am instructional writer and learning technology manager for a hospice. I also write creative nonfiction, fiction, poetry and essays for my website, The Writing Machine, and self-publish books as well.

Happy birthday Christian! Great to see the pictures that you have posted. We are still in Marion (no kidding ) and doing well. Love to your whole family!

I haven't been on here in years but recently decided to look up some old friends and found you. Looks like you are doing well. You have a beautiful family, and great photos. I'm sorry to hear of Mom and Shane's divorce. How is Screetch?
I've been trying to locate some of the old crowd, Meah, Casey, Val, haven't had any luck. I just read about Lester getting married by Greg... too funny! I love to tell my kids, Olivia 11, and Ben 9, stories of how we grew up. They can't believe it!
We moved back to Long Island after we graduated and I have never had to desire to leave. No place like it!
So much to say but running out of time,
I'll write back soon
Beth Peterson Sandt aka Buffy Peterson Seems to be the trend with us way corps folk!
Good to see you on-line. Your eyes are the same. All of my hair fell out too. I think that it was the two degrees, six kids, three companies and 21 years of marriage! Ha!
I really enjoyed your photos.
God Bless,
Lester
You are probably wondering who I am (at least as far as my last name is concerned)…
Well, I used to be Joe Hanson.
(Depending on just how far back we go, you might have already figured that out!)
About 17 years ago, I had my name legally changed back to the name I was born with…
Joseph Sebastian Purpura III
Although it is a very long story, Hanson was the last name of my then step-father Jim.
I had always expected that I would change it back some day!
There is much I can say (regarding what I have been up to) for the past 20+ years, but as to not sound redundant, just check out my info page (I just updated it with more stuff)…
http://waycorps.ning.com/profile/JoePurpura
On that page, you will also find photos from “the good old days”!
I will be adding more and more pictures as I have time to scan them (so check back often – by the time I am done, there will be a large number of them – I AM TALKING DOZENS!).
I had pretty much lost touch with everyone from “the group” (that is, once I had moved to Seattle, back in 1987) and it had stayed that way…
That is, until I got a phone call out of the blue from Linus!
(It is quite the story how he got my phone number – his dad got a hold of my uncle – neither of us knew that they actually knew each other, let alone having each other’s email addresses).
Among other things, Linus told me about this “Way Corps” website.
Since speaking to Linus, I have also had a telephone conversation with Lester (Carver).
Him and his wife Vanessa (who by the way were married by Greg Bernardini, if you didn’t know) apparently have quite the brood (I forget how many, but I believe he said that they have like 5 or 6 kids).
He also told me that Lorenzo is the C.E.O. of a very large company out of Denver.
(And to think he went to the Berkley College of Music to become a musician – I wonder what happened?).
Lester and his family live in Indianapolis. If you want to email him (as far as I know, he is not currently on the Way Corps website yet), he is at…
artios357@usa.net
OH, BY THE WAY…
I just started this Blog (here on the Way Corps website). I call it…
JUNIOR CORPS STORIES (what really happened!)
It is my hope that you (and everyone else) will add stories to it!
The Blog address is…
http://waycorps.ning.com/profiles/blogs/junior-corps-stories-what#c...
There are only two rules concerning the submission of stories to this Blog…
BE THOROUGH and DEFINITELY DONT HOLD BACK!
(In other words, REALLY TELL IT LIKE IT WAS!)
I think you will enjoy reading the stories I have already posted (and keep checking back, I will be adding more stories as I have time for it).
Since I much rather talk than write, I would always love to hear from you (my phone number is 509-659-0700).
Also, here is my address (I recently bought the house)…
Joe Purpura
301 East Birch Avenue
Ritzville, Washington 99169
If you haven’t been to my info page yet, I just moved here from Seattle (that is after 22 years of being there), in part to concentrate on my writing!)
And my personal email address is…
joe@joepurpura.com
(Just be careful who you give this email address out to – so far this address has been spam free and I would really like to keep it that way – THANKS!)
Finally, (if you can) please say a prayer for my sister Suzanne, she was hit by a car recently and has been the hospital (she has already had 4 operations on her leg)!
Although she is not on this website, you can email her (and I know she would enjoy hearing from you!). Her email address is…
Suzanne.Belluardo@intusurg.com
You might also like to know that her and her husband Johnny just had their 2nd child (Michael) back in October (his older brother Matthew will be 6 in March).
Sue works in Robotics (the kind of Robot that surgeons use to operate on you). She started out as a Post-Open-Heart, I.C.U. Nurse (by graduating at the top of her class in Nursing School).
I AM QUITE PROUD OF HER!
I hope you have the time to either email, or call me. I really look forward to hearing how things have been for you and yours.
Later,
Joe
P.S. Bo - If you can, cut and past some of your work from "thewritingmachine.net" site. I have been there and really liked what I read!
Hey, remember me? I would love to get in touch with your mom. Can you give me an address or email address? Is she on this site? My son was blessed to see you here.
Sue
A blast from the past! I have funny stories and memories from our Score Week and the Crock adventures. You and your family are a good lookin', happy bunch! I hope our paths cross again someday.
Take care...
