About Me
Lasted through the first part of my final residence year at HQ before leaving via deprogramming. It was not the way to go. Okay, actually just before the deprogramming I was put on LOA. Married my Russian wife on April 27th 1985. Her family is one of the two "Siberian Seven" families, 7 members of which (including my now mother-in-law and one of my brothers-in-law) were in refuge in the U.S. Embassy in Moscow, USSR for 5 years, the ordeal starting near the end of my first residence year. We have 5 kids, one of which has been my stepdaughter since age 3 and who is now doing graduate studies at GW University in D.C. We have 2 special needs kids, one born with spina bifida and one autistic, always presenting a challenge especially since they are 21 and 18. Our youngest is a math whiz and in 2006 as an 8th grader represented our state at Mathcounts nationals in DC; getting to spend time with big sister during free time.
My Interests
WWII studies, sprouting from being the truest baby boomer as both my parents were in the Navy during the war. Have delved more specifically into the battle of the Bulge and the last days of the Japanese Empire, including the ploitical turmoil in Japan and the development of the atomic bomb.
Also baseball umpiring (see below), and there would be several other things which I just don't have time and/or money for.
Employment or Career
Weather forecasting, baseball umpiring
Music I Like
Movie themes (James Bond and others)
Popular oldies (especially from my early 70s stint as a campus radio DJ)
Books I Like
Sci fi classics (Jules Verne, George Orwell, etc)
Television I like
Like some other old farts, a lot of the old reruns.
Movies I like
Various. Like TV a tendency toward the old ones, but not nearly so much so. Star Wars/Mark Hamill buff. In fact, one of the most inspirational movies I have ever seen never made wide release after it was made several years ago, "Walking Across Egypt" starring ellen Burstyn, Jonothan Taylor Thomas, and mark Hamill.
Sports Teams I like
Cleveland Indians, Cleveland Browns, Penn state anything.

God bless...DB
I honestly did not remember the performance at ROA 1989. The hymns that we performed which are most pronounced in my memory are "Thessalonica", the "Hallelujah Chorus" done at the Way C of E, and "Psalm 103 --- Bless the Lord, Oh My Soul..." I was actually just thinking about these lately.
Thanks again for the memory stimulator!
John
Thanks for the further elucidation on our common memory exercise. I'm thankful that the lighter side of life is something you value, and that I have been able to bless you with that. At times, things seem to get heavy in my thinking, and then someone will step up and teach on "A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: But a broken spirit drieth the bones" and I am reminded of the importance of a merry heart (Prov. 15:13) and a good word (Prov. 12:25).
God's blessings
John
Thanks for the memory from the deserted barn in the midst of the thunderstorms and the snow. I remember much of that camping trip, but I didn't remember what you remembered!
All of the best to you --- and thanks for your kindness and notes!
John
God bless you! "Long time no see" would be quite an understatement! I told someone recently about your abilities as a tenor when we used to practice from 9:30PM until ????PM, and our voices would be challenged to stay on key.
BTW...What comment or announcement did I make on the March 1978 camping trip. This eludes my memory.
God bless you, and have a wonderful day and evening!
In Christ's love,
John
Keep well and stay warm.
Peg Kelly :)
How do you like our Rays? First game World Series tonight!
Love to your family. Post a few pictures if so inclined. Hope to meet you face to face someday. Say hi to others on the other site.

PS - Deprogramming! Now that's a dandy! Incredible, that era. You should write a Blog here about your experiences and thoughts about that. Today deprogramming would be lawsuit city, I bet, if it still existed.
