Way Corps Reunion 2010

When I started this site less than a year ago, I indicated to the handfull of early friends and members at that time that IF we ever reached 1,000 members I would commit to helping put together a Way Corps Reunion. Today we have 1,100 members and that does not include husbands and wives who share accounts. I did not expect so many to join so quickly. Go figure! I would like to announce that we will have a Way Corps Reunion in 2010. I am not sure where and I am not sure how. But I assure you it will happen one way or another. Plan now! 1. I am sure it will include family and friends of Way Corps alumni. 2. It will not be planned as a teaching or evangelistic event but more social in nature. After all, we have a lot of catching up to do! But within that framework will be plenty of time for heart sharing and networking both publicly and privately, in the general group and in smaller groups. 3. A cruise is a good possibility. We got a taste of what a reunion of this type can be like when we attended the 6th Corps reunion in Chicago last month where they celebrated their 30th year since graduation. While only 60 people attended, it was memorable and moving on many different levels. The planners did a great job and I can only hope to come close to the quality of that event. I have no idea how many from this site may desire to attend, but imagine what it will be like if even a few dozen of us gather somewhere for an extended long weekend? It will be unforgettable in my opinion. I will need help as I am just one person who also happens to work full time and has a family. But I am excited about this. Let's use this thread to discuss. Also feel free to email me privately if you want to. You can also call or text me. John R. jrich7@verizon.net C (813) 404-9795

  • Wow...I've definitely got to be at this reunion now! Muy amable de su parte, Kevin & Bob ;-). I don't remember Johnny's version--but there were so many fun versions** ...if it is available, we must sing it again when we all reunite. And there will have to be skits~~
    Cheryl (7th)
  • You're right Kevin...
    One thing's for sure...
    Cheryl is a real Dahl...

    :) Bob
  • Ya know Cheryl, I always loved to do "Roll Away". Did you ever have the opportunity (yes "opportunity") to sing it with Jonny Townsend when he did it "punk rock style"? Too funny that was. Ya know Cheryl, I remember you, but only through a glass darkly. A very pretty gal? Eighth Corps? But maybe just so pretty that you could have been in any Corps and I remember your name on your name tag...But whatever, bless you, and I hope that your life is Rich! Muy Rico! Adios....

    Kevin
  • Yes Kevin...and you also said "roll away" .... ;-)
  • You mean, we won't have to Roll Away? And yeah, I guess a week would be hard to get a handle on. I guess I was thinking that since we'd never been on a cruise, that it may as well last for a bit to get the most out of it. But whatever. I'm game to roll with the best and most logical idea. That which makes it available for the most amount of of us to get together :-).

    P.S.
Did I just say "available" in that manner"? Umm yeah, I guess I did...Roll eyes...
  • Not sure about a WEEK long cruise for a reunion. That might be harder for people to do than shorter alternatives. We'll explore all options.

But it's looking like cruising is a lot cheaper than people might have previously thought. Betsy, I will look into this service among others soon. There must be a cruise travel specialist among us.

I think the hardest part of this will be making the initial arrangements. Once we have the dates, destination and price out of the way, the rest should be somewhat simple.

I mean, heck, we all know how to do name tags and such. And just think we won't even need a clean up crew or dish crew. smile.gif

  • Hmmm....Sounds kinda more favorable to us West (and North) Coasties. I mean, for Floridians, it's a snap to get on down to Miamah and "cotch de boat". But it is a long haul from the extreme Northwest to the extreme Southeast. So, maybe a So. Cal departure would even things up a bit? I mean, after all, the main goal is to get as many of us together as possible, ya know? And, Mike McCarver's suggestion would come into play regardless of the Port of Departure, ya know? Great idea Mike: Hang at the hotel for a day or two, get caught up, have a great time, and then for those who elect the cruise, they can then then ship out for the cruise, and those who didn't will be happy to have been able to get together with us all. And maybe we'll be a couple (Shannon and I-ferget the kids-lol) of the folks to not "cruise" but to just visit.

And Mexico is cool, and would be a nice change from an Alaskan Winter (for us anyway-like anywhere Down South), Mexico used to be "cheap" when it comes to shore side things. The USVI (Virgin Islands) is NOT cheap when it comes to shore side things. And remember, if you like to enjoy adult beverages, you'll pay an arm and a leg on board ship. So, remember to sneak your private stash when you come aboard. Seriously, I am very "up" on cruise ship amenities. We have six ships a day here in Juneau all summer long, and you'd be amazed at how much money the local liquor stores make here off of disgruntled cruise ship passengers, not happy about the cost of "drinks on board".

Anyway, more food for thought since we are a ways away from realizing this fine time...
