Tom Weakland
Posted by Ted Ferrell on August 8, 2012 at 4:01pm in In Memoriam
I found out a few days ago Tom Weakland the bass singer for The Victors Quartet has passed away. Tom was a wonderful believer and a fabulous singer. He had a great sense of humor. I always enjoyed being around him..
He left this old world on January 23 2011 Please pray for his wife Shannon and their children to make it through these missing times.
Tom was only 60 years old..He will be missed by many including me.

So much of the history of Way Productions and my involvement should be written .
There has been a couple or so that have told me so. The last one is a friend of mine that really sparked the fire to get moving.. In fact he has invested the finances So to the best of my ability I'm working on it. It's a real challenge cause I'm a song writer not a book writer
Give my love to Lisa and tell her I said she is one of the best singer songwriters that's ever been.
This photo was taken at the Sidney house (Cultural Arts Center). I didn't know Don Adams, but Dave Hogshead was in the group. One of the original Victors was replaced; that might have been the swap. The Victors...In Hymn has an insert with the group's photo from 1984. In my feeble way, I will try to replicate it, here. God bless.
Well, I solicited the help of the site guru, as I cannot get it posted.
Yes Jerry I recall when and where the photo of The Victors was taken. Thanks for reminding me
Don quit The Victors and was replaced with David Hogshead who did a superb job.
I recently put together two CD'S of The Victors recordings and mailed them to Tom Weaklland's wife.Shannon.
Also I did the same for Dave Demars.
God Bless
Ted, that kind of history should be preserved somehow somewhere. It was new to me anyhow - and I think that the background information like that makes the music even more enjoyable.
I have this picture Ted. Is this the Victors? Which one is our brother Tom? I did not have the privilege to know him. I recognize my friend Doug Cosmos sitting in the right chair. I was in the 7th Corps qith him. And you are on the left chair.
John
This picture is not complete As I recall Tom Weakland was standing by my chair The man standing between Doug Cosmos and me is Dave Demars .Standing back of Doug's chair is Don Adams .
The reason why my mug is in the picture is because I was the one that put The Victors together and traveled with them on the road for over a year,.
Around late 1980 VP called me into his office and played some recordings he had of The Swanee River Boys. which he loved . He then says to me "Ted I want you to put together four men that can duplicate the style of The Swanee River Boys. John it took some doing to do it and I had no idea how I was going to pull that one off..
After doing some research about The Swanee River Boys I found out that The lead singer Bufford Abner lived in Indianapolis . I called him and asked if he would coach the ones I had chosen and Bufford bless is heart said bring them over to my home and I'll see what I can do. .For the next two months every Saturday we drove over to Bufford's home and he coached them how to get that style of singing.and what a job he did.
You see that style of singing is called closed tone singing which results in a mellow smooth sound.
Sad to say many of The Way folks did not understand The Victors but VP loved the Victors and they blessed him time and time again .
To this day I'm thankful that I was able to help fulfill a dream that VP had.
I still do not understand why Craig M got rid of The Victors .I was not around when that happened .
Thanks for the note, Ted. I still listen to The Victors quite a bit actually. I love that bass voice. I'll be praying for the family. We have so much to be thankful for, like having this great voice to listen too. The Return will be a wonderful gathering, won't it? Love you.
