I see no one making that assumption here, Pamela. But I have heard such absurd teaching in the past. Even then I did not believe it.
Bottom line....it does not matter what anyone thinks. A cancer patients goal would be to become cancer free. To me that would include removing myself far away from negative influences such as that and to get the best care possible as quickly as possible.
Wow, did you all think I was "out of fellowship" cause I had cancer? Or that I wasn't walking with God?
well put John, I totally agree with you.
AMEN! I love the way God says it...
1 Corinthians 3:22-23 (KJV)22 Whether Paul, or Apollos, or Cephas, or the world, or life, or death, or things present, or things to come; all are yours;
23 And ye are Christ's; and Christ is God's.
Bravo, well said. I am proud of your success in your battle against cancer. I think you are quailified to speak with a sincere heart about this issue, better that some of us who have never had this battle. Thanks for sharing and adding perspective on this issue. I agree there is no easy answer. Your advice is very encouraging.
Bottom line is, we need to love and support one another when a brother or sister is faced with this battle. The last thing we need to do is to condemn them as if they fell short somehow or allowed the enemy a foothold. Doctrinal error can be so cruel and absurd sometimes.
As a Cancer survivor in the midst of going to school to get my nursing degree I was diagnosed with Cancer, I was ignoring all my symptoms because being near the end of nursing school and knowing this was my one shot I was 55 at the time. I had to pray and grabbed my mind because I only had 2 more months to finish and I was going to finish!
When told I didn't freak out about having cancer but that I might not be able to finish nursing school. Ultimately it was God who got me through, and the family support and especially the praying. I had surgery, finished nursing school, got my licenses and am now working as an RN for over a year now.
Cancer is personal, it's real, it's a cold cold words when you hear them and they hit really hit your heart. I do not have a clad answer and I do not know if there is one. Years ago it was stated that "you were out of fellowship" if something like this happened to you, those are safety words for those that say them. In other words this wont happen to me because I walk with God.
Well unfortunately we are a 3 fold being. And the body part is dust, and it is what it is! And we aren't going to live forever, but many friends I know have gone down fighting like hell not to give into this diagnosis and some won at this juncture and other's are awaiting the return. I do not judge them for having gone through it, there is no right answer because it is so personal, it hits you right where you are weakest and wants to get the better of you.
I think (a lot working in the medical field for over 35 years) is early diagnosis but we get so busy in this life that we ignore maybe what our body is telling us. When they first diagnoses me, I was at a stage I low grade a month later when they got in there actually to do the surgery I was stage III. My blessing was it wasn't in any of my lymph tissue.
I wish there was a clad answer, I have seen people get chemo and get good results, I have seen people go natural and herbal and get good results. Ultimately I believe that person has to go to the father and say Dad what do I do? There is no one answer because as God Word says we are members and all very different, I pray that if someone has this diagnosis they never condemn themselves, they go to God knowing he knows exactly what is right for them, and they utilize the family for prayer and support.
John
With all the knowledge that Steve Jobs had you would think he would have listened to the diagnosis the medical profession gave him. Perhaps if he would have done so there is a strong possibly he would still be alive today..
So many others ignore the symptoms of cancer until it'd too late Sad to say you and I have seen some of our brethren go down that road. .
Here is a relevant linkabout how Steve Jobs regretted not having surgery for his early detected pancreatic cancer. Instead he chose alternative therapies. The cancer was most likely curable according to doctors. But he waited too long to treat it:

This is a difficult media to have these discussions. But John, I fully agree that going to God is always the first thing to do.
But for me, drugs and surgery are a last resort. If someone wants to make it their first resort, that's fine and their decision. I have data points from top cancer specialists that I have personally worked with. I know their approach, and I don't agree with it. But I don't insist any one else to hold the same opinion. It's my opinion and not God's Word!
No one will deny that eating right, exercising, plenty of fresh air, and thinking the right thoughts will contribute greatly to health and well being.
Prov 17:22 A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.
I've concluded that our deep inner, non-conscience (i.e. "heart") thoughts have more to do with health than all the rest put together. Even most medical doctors will agree much disease is psychosomatic.
I'm very happy with the approach I've taken and have no problem with telling people, and no problem listening to other success stories!
Ultimately, it is indeed the individual's decision what to do for their health. But I think the more informed they are, the better. The best Counselor, of course, is God. Healing has a lot to do with getting reconnected and listening to Him.
"Pretend to get some work done" - hey that's my job!
I think that perhaps I wasn't clear enough in my post. When we were faced with the cancer diagnosis, we did pray - always the first resort. We also then went to the best cancer specialist available locally. (In Cedar Rapids we are blessed to be between the Mayo Clinic to the north and the Univ of Iowa Hospital to the south and we get the best of both). Once we had prayerfully decided on our course of action that was when we really had to limit the input and opinions that others wanted to give.
