About cell phones, that was not our experience on this very same cruise several years ago. I made many cell calls due to business and it was not a problem.

But you have made me curious about it so I will ask, Pam, our cruise agent about this and find out the facts. She knows everything about these cruises cuz she does this for a living.
  • Hey, All -

I can't come on the cruise with you, because it's during the semester. But I want to make sure that I pass along something I've just learned. Cruise ships have satellite systems that your cell phone will use to connect to your service if you are on the ship at the time that you make a call. These connection services often carry up to a NINE DOLLARS PER MINUTE surcharge! You will not know about this charge until you get home and open up your cell phone bill, so be forewarned.

Just about two hours ago, I set up a cell phone account for my in-laws, who will be going on a cruise, and the AT&T representative made sure to warn me about this issue. I was incredulous - $9 per minute? Who in the world would think that this kind of charge is acceptable? But he assured me that some folks have run up bills of a couple of thousand dollars without even knowing it. He said that the cruise lines charge AT&T, and AT&T passes the charges along to the customers. It happens all the time.

So, turn off your cellphone as you walk onto the ship, and keep it off until you are back on the ground, in a port. And by the way, have a great time on the cruise!

    Love, Vickie

  • Oh, God, that is such a funny story Pat. Good little robots. Ha, ha. biggrin.gif

What I also mean is OUR activities will be optional. Certainly we will be meeting several times as a group of Way Corps alumni. Maybe a slideshow, maybe some music, maybe a fellowship of some kind....I really don't know yet. (I'll need help with that.) Those activities are optional.

But I must warn you...if you miss too many activities you will be placed on "dropped overboard Corps" status. biggrin.gif

I look forward to meeting you and your family.
  • re: activities optional... just a little reminiscing here. Aric and I went on a 3-day cruise for our honeymoon. Having just graduated from the Corps myself, and Aric 2 years prior, we dutifully attended every activity on the schedule. After about a day and a half of running ourselves ragged, we realized the activities were optional! Sounds silly, but it was such a habit to show up to all the "meetings!" We finally relaxed and enjoyed feeling just a little guilty about doing our own thing.

By the way, there is SO MUCH to do on a cruise, friends and family will have no trouble at all finding fun things to do. John, we'll get our deposit started as soon as we can!
  • This is our best "guesstimate" of the participation that we may have for this cruise. But as I have said before...even if it is a smaller group....... we are thrilled anyway to spend time with some of the greatest people we have ever known. There are advantages to a smaller group.

Bring your family or relatives. They will not be held captive by our activities and they will not feel out of place if they have never been in The Way. Our activities will be optional anyway.

As the saying goes "life is short". We might as well make attempts to enjoy it to its fullest when possible.

    Call Pam asap please.
