How Many Were In The Way Corps?

How many people participated in The Way corps program? including the very small Way Corps groups of today? List the groups you know of and the number of people who were in it. We can total as we go. I think you might find the total number surprising. As for me.....hmmm 7th Corps...It seems like we started with a group of about 350. Some left the first few months or the first year so I think a figure of 300 would be safe. Others will know more specifically.

  • Hello All;
    I was recently moving some boxes around organizing the garage and ran across boxes of Corps Night notes from my time in the 11th Corps. On our first Corp Night I had written a note in the margin where it was announced that we started out with 505 11th Corps. We were the largest group ever. I think we graduated 353 (if my groggy eyes got the count from the program right). Family 7 graduated the same year we did & if memory serves, they were the largest Family Corps group. One of these days I'll get around to typing out all of those notes, two whole years of Corps Nights, including Dr.'s last live teaching to the WC.

    Blessings;

  • Thanks Donna & thanks Daniel. Obviously, I haven't kept up with any of it for many years. I'm surprised about Gunnison. They probably don't allow visitors, but we'll probably never be out that way. That's where I became engaged.
  • Kathleen, To answer some your basic questions:

    They do still have Gunnison. They moved the Corps training to HQ, but have opened up Gunnison as a resort and for camps for those in the ministry who want to get away to the mountains.

    They of course do not have ROA.. It's been quite some time over 10 years since that was cancelled. The WOW program was cancelled but now renamed Way Disciple as a 6mnth (actually shorter when it first began) program available.. And the only festivals they have now, well not exactly, but are the annual Adv. Class, and Adv. Class Specials (two this fiscal year - Nov & April) all at HQ.

    Last I knew of the costs for in-residence Corps, they were each to raise around $5600 a year but it's been a few years since I even checked.

    I do not know just what is contained in The Way mags. Will try to do some work with them this coming winter. I am now 76 yrs old and husband is 83. He was in hospital/nursing home 3-4 mos last yr and I was with him 6-10 hr/da 7 days a week. So we are both still catching up. He is doing well. Our oldest dau is married to Dr W's nephew, Bob Ed Wierwille. They are both still active in The Way. We are not. I am surprised you were allowed on The Way grounds. I've heard they have very tight security these days. Our son who lives in Greene Co also, drove through the grounds a week or two ago with dau and her husband. He said it was a very "dead" place, as you indicated also. I know they attend Sunday services, which I think are now in the afternoon. They have an annual Ad Class--don't know current name of it--PFAL was redone by Craig and name changed to Way of Abundance and Power, I think. Will keep copy of your questions and maybe have more info for you sometime in the future. Think there is now another new one.

  • Donna,
    Do the mags list the numbers of graduated Corps in each category? (Fam, Euro, ec.) It would require a program, but would be interesting to have data on the numbers of WC who graduated with the orig. classes & those who graduated w/others. I remember thinking WC 10 graduated w/not much over 1/2 of those who started. The WC 10 grad no. listed prev. (299 I think) included quite a few from other classes. Of course the grads are only a part of the entire WC so the starting lists are of particular interest.
    I also hadn't thought the program had continued. I wonder what the cost is these days to participate? Isn't HQ the only location that hasn't been sold off? Our family took a short drive through HQ one summer a few yrs. back & we saw perhaps 3 people, including a security guy. Do they have ROA, WOW, festivals, etc?
  • Thanks, Kathleen

    I did not even ask the name of the 39th Corps members I met. I was so shocked that it had gone that long. I do have ALL Way Magazines since 1954(?), so could look each year to see what was "reported." I would sure like to have a list of all members of each Corps from 0 to 10. Tried to print the lists posted of the 11th and 12th, but did not get all names. Need John or someone to show me how to make such stuff fit on my printer. Thanks, again.

  • The sheet of WC names given at the start of the year in 1981 lists 383 WC 12 and 349 WC 10. However, there are 9 names manually crossed off of those who were on the WC 10 list but had dropped by that time.
    The Household News did not typically list numbers, but the 1979 Sept/Oct. Corps News listed 442 WC 10 in Emporia, 227 WC 8 among the 4 locations and 45 WC 4 among the 4 locations. Family Corps were not listed.

    I attended a shower for my grandson's fiance just last Apr. I met a coujple of current Way Corps members--I asked what Corps they are in. They said 39th. I figured back to the year we moved from Hdqs (Apr) 1979 when I was working on the 10th WC applicants. It figures OK for me. I could hardly believe it has been that many years since we lived there. What changes have been wrought!!!

  • Does anyone have a starting list of WC 10 and the graduation list? It seems we were either the largest or second largest - but lost a great many along the way....
    Way Corps 10 graduated in 1982.
  • Thanks, Ken. I stand corrected.
