How Many Were In The Way Corps?

How many people participated in The Way corps program? including the very small Way Corps groups of today? List the groups you know of and the number of people who were in it. We can total as we go. I think you might find the total number surprising. As for me.....hmmm 7th Corps...It seems like we started with a group of about 350. Some left the first few months or the first year so I think a figure of 300 would be safe. Others will know more specifically.

  • Thanks for this contribution to start this thread off, Karl. However, the 4th Corps graduated in 1976. Many of 4th Corps were married that summer after their graduation.

  • Hmm. I thought there was only 19 of us at graduation. 24th Corps that is.
  • Yes, Dean. Please PDF them and send. I am eventually going to make one giant PDF with all names from all groups. A lot of this has to be hand typed from scanned lists. I work full time so it is a challenge for me to do it in a nice orderly fashio like the 7th Corps list listed in Links on the Main page. I am especially interested in that 5th Corps list.

Baiscally, Dean I think you could safely say there were 5 to 7 thousand who participated in Way Corps. I lean more towards the higher number. It's great seeing you, by the way. Fond memories. Interesting times we lived back then, eh?
  • I'm too tired to count. I keep finishing with different totals.

I can supply a few documents if anyone would like these:

    1. 7thCorps: The first housing list from September 7, 1976 that lists every person who was registered at the beginning.

    2. 7th Corps: The final list of 7th Way Corps graduates on July 28, 1979. Did you know that Fran Glika was the only one with a grade point of 3.7 or above? We should have slept more.

    3. 5th Corps: The housing list that identifies each person in the 5th Corps on September 7, 1976.

I have the originals, and I can make .pdf files if you want them. I also have other "stuff" that from the '70s, but it appears that I've tossed quite a bit.
  • Hi Ian & God bless. You must be an old guy now!! 1887 needs to be corrected! How are you doing. Thanks for adding me as yousr friend.
  • Here is a portion of the Graduation and Recognition Program for The Eleventh Way Corps with the name of the graduates. I thought it would be a blessing.

  • Ian, I'm sure it's a typo -- but it was fun to think for a moment that The Way Corps went as far back as 1887. I bet Charles Spurgeon would have been the Coordinator!
  • There must have been 25 Graduate with me from E3 in 1887, - So don't forget the European Corps, it was great training, very hands on, lots of time to serve and lots of good old teaching!
  • I thought the 11th was the largest -- at least at the time of the 11th! I bet JAL would know
  • Well it sure wasnt the 8th. We were smaller than the two right before us and dunno how many immediately after us.
