  • Thanks for sharing this, Pat. It remind me so much of the wonderful earlier days of the ministry when a person would just feel loved and accepted. No wonder so many of us got involved and the ministry grew. What great examples we had. I love hearing these kinds of experiences, so thanks!
  • I worked at the Allen Home on my Interim year, and in the Bookstore for several years. Mrs. Allen had such a big heart to take care of people. Howard and Emogene always treated people like family when they stopped by their house. Nobody was a stranger. I learned so much from her. Her family was always top priority, and no matter what happened her love for her kids was absolutely unconditional.

She put her whole heart into keeping that bookstore department running smoothly. The bookstore staff were her "kids" and she made sure we were taken care of.

During my interim year working at their house, she often invited Aric to have supper - we had just started dating - and she got a big kick out of him enjoying the food so much (being a bachelor of course.) She also let me off work to go to my grandmother's 90th birthday DURING ROA SET UP (My grandmother fell asleep just a few months later.)

She had tremendous believing and if she prayed for someone to get healed, you could just count on seeing it come to pass. She had such a big heart, and she wasn't flashy but she believed God to bless people in so many little ways. She will be missed very much.
  • John the year I came on the scene at The Way was the summer of 1968.

And yes I will call Howard later on As for now I will just send him a sympathy card and a note,

John the old guard is almost gone.

Thankful I am that I got to serve with folks like Emogene and Howard.
  • Awww, Ted... thanks for those kind words. I did not know her and did not know Howard all that well either but it sounds like you sure did. I bet if Howard could read your words his heart would be warmed. Maybe you should call him. It is my understanding things have changed and certain "walls" have been torn asunder. (Thank God but can't gaurantee it.)

    You said:
"When I first came to The Way, Howard and Emogene Allen were some of the first believers I met there"

What year might that have been Ted?
  • When I first came to The Way Howard and Emogene Allen were some of the first believers I met there, I grew to love those two wonderful saints and I still do.

Many times after Sunday night service we would get together at the Owens for some good food and a lot of joyful laughter. Emogene and Howard sure got their two cents worth in. I cherish those days.

For many years Emogene Allen gave her all in all to the work of the ministry and for the perfecting of the saints. What a great lady she was .Yes she was one of a kind and in my memory she shall forever have a special place in my heart.

Please pray for Howard and family that their hearts might be comforted knowing that when Jesus Christ returns we shall all be together again.
Until then so long my good friend and sister in Christ Emogene Allen
