BLOGS

Blog or Article?

Blogs often focus on personal opinion, experiences, views, anecdotes or advice. Blogs tend to have a relaxed and conversational feel, such as in storytelling and are generally 300-500 words.

Articles aim to deliver well-researched, informative content with solid evidence to back up the points made.  Articles are usually more formal, organized and frequently range 500-1000 words.

OCCUPY, a poem about the Wall Street Protest

OCCUPY

They are occupying Wall Street,

But I wonder, do they have a job on Main Street?

They are against the Corporate profit,

But how many Corporate patents do they use?

When they twitter, and black berry, and whine without end?

And how unrighteous is that Starbucks 5 dollar coffee cup?

They are calling for fairness, but not ambition.

The condemn the rich, but they excuse the lazy poor.

They say we should not have bailed out the banks.

But who, OH, Who was it that signed the trillion dollar check?

Was it Democrat, and Obama, and Biden and friends?

And now they set the stage to do it again.

Its too bad they do not occupy diligence,

Diligence is never hungry or broke.

Had they occupied wisdom

The right thing would have been done.

The only place they have occupied, is the seat of the fool

The scornful, the lazy slothful, all in the name of fairness.

They really only want to suckle, as a suckling baby pig,

On the wonderful government teat.

They care not the burden they have heaped on this land.

They only want to suckle and suckle is where they stand.

The debt is now 47 grand for every woman child and man.

15 trillion, but onward the little piglets go.

  • First of all, thank you for your service to this great country, Michael. I know some of you service men have done more for our country than some of us ever will. Awesome!

I think you sort of just put into words what my wife and I have believed about Gary ever since he was with us here for a few years in Tampa. He had a knack (ministry?) for outreach. Let me put it this way. I have lived here for 31 years. The outreach and numbers of active believers was never as abundant as when Gary Matsuk was here....before or after. Never. Nor was it ever as much fun. People were attracted to his big heart and sense of humor. He was quite intelligent too though he never really showed that side.

Hope and I also used to tell him he was the best story teller in the entire Way Ministry. He really got going in the late night hours when there were just a few of us around kicking back, hangin out. We listened to him literally for hours, and never laughed so hard in our lives.

If he started a church I'd join it. Gary if you ever read this don't get on an ego trip man.

  • Thanks John,

I had the distinct honor of serving with Gary in the United States Navy, SEABEE"S.  He ran my first 4 or 5 PFAL classes.  He was my elder corps, and my WOW brother.  I would guess that in the days of the Word over the world Ambassador program, Gary probably came the closet to circumnaivigationg the globe as a wow Ambassador.  From the tip of India, Diego Garcia  Westward, to the City of Tehran, Iran Eastward.  The fellowship in Oxnard California, in its height probably covered more real estate, and reached farther accross the world than any group.  Not only were we integrated into the construction battalions of the Navy, but also the Navy squardons located at Point Magoo. (five miles away).  The real thrust of this movement started with the WOW family of Gary Matsuk, Doug Lambert, Bill Schaffer, and Arnie Schmidt, during their deployment to Dioego Garcia in 1975.    This group assisted in opening a number of countries, plus strenthening the U.S. as the men were discharged from the service.  In terms of pioneers, and of those who served on the frontier of not only the outreach of the word, but the frointiers of civilization, I can can think of no one who did more to reach out with God's word around the nations of the world that Gray Matrsuk

  • Donaldo and David. I am indeed grouchy sometimes. But you guys help me to keep my sense of humor. Especially my Englishman hillbilly friend. Thanks for that you guys.

Michael you seem to have some excellent points. And a good poet as well.  My friend Gary Matsuk was there with you in 1979 as well wasn't he? He used to tell us stories about that whole experience when he was our awesome branch leader here. It was fascinating to hear it all.

  • The little engine that could

The little engine that could, no longer can

They outlawed his engine making a ban.

Only here, not in other lands.

The outlawed his fuel, and refused to let him drill

Then sold him to the Chinese for scrap iron parts.

And now in America, instead of rockets, we have rickshaw carts.

  • Jerry

My one great point is that while in this world, tho, not of this world, we have found ourselves in a land quite unlike any other.  One that recognizes the unalienable as endowed by our Creator.  These vagabonds, destined for the barbecue down at the lake in Revelation, are the muck, in the applicatrion of these endowed rights, not much different than a priest of Baal, with a nifty new idol.

I had front-row seats on the fifty yard line when the country of Iran Imploded in 79, Caught in the cross-fire of a firefight, had guns put to my face numerous times, was interogated for four hours as I had Nancy Dakin's Corps notes, and low and behold the only piece they pulled out was something with the Corps logo on it that said in Aramaic; "For the glory of God, and the accuracy of His word"  It was a heck of a conversation.  In our blind idealism, we left Ka-vah in charge. He was jailed, got out, but I wonder, lo these many years later, what of those who attended fellowship, and is that young man who is being threatened by the despotic government of Iran, of the high crime of confessing Jesus Christ as Lord, connected to those I knew?  And what was legal and altogether right in that part of the world in 1979, is now punishable by death.

As John Adams said, "While I live, let me a have a country, a free country."

Since our treasure is in heaven, can I borrow your mustang for a couple of months?

    Bless ya brother

  • Donaldo,

You can never be kicked out of anywhere that really counts. You are sealed with that holy spirit of promise. I'm looking forward to spending eternity with you, Brother.

    God bless.

  • I gotta agree with D.B. John. Ooops, hope I don't kicked out 'cuz of that.
  • You are already "grouchy" lol.

  • No you are not the critical one at all Jerry. I was talking about myself. I was seriously referring to me.

For example, in my not too distant past I would have gone on and on about those "lazy" kids at the OCCUPY sites. But I was a young protestor once. Or I might have had plenty of opinions about Corporate Greed and banks and the people who run them. Except for the fact that I have known some wonderful Christian people in those positions who quietly do a lot of good for lots of people. I might have even been critical of a ministry in my past. But I have found that it is not always so simple to point the critical finger at people. There is usually more to the situation than I know. As you indicated, there are powers at work that we can not necessarily control.

I am attempting to be a little more broad minded before passing judgement on anyone. When I do that it's not always pretty, nor is it usually correct. It has been a bad habit of mine in the past DUE TO WRONG TEACHING.

After all, I dont want to be one of those grouchy old guys when I grow up.

  • Ooh, John, I wasn't trying to be critical of anyone. Well, maybe split foot. Always a joy to hear from you, Heaven's Holiest of All! God bless, Saint.
