BLOGS

Blog or Article?

Blogs often focus on personal opinion, experiences, views, anecdotes or advice. Blogs tend to have a relaxed and conversational feel, such as in storytelling and are generally 300-500 words.

Articles aim to deliver well-researched, informative content with solid evidence to back up the points made.  Articles are usually more formal, organized and frequently range 500-1000 words.

In Memory of My Friend, Vanessa Kaye Travers (WC 16)

This is a poem I wrote for my friend, Vanessa Travers in 2004. She was a true friend, and always inspired me to be a better person. She had the greatest capacity to love I've ever seen. I had a lot of respect for her and the Word she lived, and count her death as one of the greatest losses in my life. I post this poem as a tribute to her.

A TRUE FRIENDby Chere L. PooleIt’s an unexpected callOn an over-hectic dayIt’s someone who hears it allNo matter what you have to sayIt’s a helping hand extendedWhen you stumble on the wayIt’s someone who lifts your burdensWith no cost for you to payIt’s a shoulder you can cry onWhen you cannot stop the tearsIt’s someone who understands youAnd helps dissipate your fearsIt’s an ally in your struggleStanding faithful at your sideIt’s someone who doesn’t judge youWhen your faults you cannot hideIt’s a place to store your secretsAll your velvet-covered dreamsIt’s someone who believes in youWhen your goals all hopeless seemIt’s a heart you can rely onHonest, caring, tender, trueIt’s a heart you can abide inIt’s a true friend, it is youCopyright 2004, all rights reserved

  • She was indeed a shining light. I miss her all the time.
  • I was in residence with Vanessa and I still remember those special times when everything seemed so hard and she would smile or extend a hand or a hug. I am sorry to not have kept up with her over the years but I rejoice that we have eternity together.
    Thanks for the update

  • Vanessa did truly light up a room with her presence and her smile. She was unlike anyone I've ever met, and always blew me away with her capacity to love. She was never judgmental toward others, and I'm so thankful God blessed my life with her friendship and her wonderful example of how to "love big". Thank you all for your kind words and encouragement regarding this poem...they are a blessing to my heart. ~ Love, Chere Poole
  • Chere - These are beautiful words for a woman who lived love from the depths of her soul.
Thank you for sharing this. You are a talented woman - keep writing from the heart.
    Much love to you, lady.

  • I was just thinking of some people that i knew in residence and will always remember Vanessa's absolutely transcending smile that lit up a room. She always had the (rhema) word to help see me through when I was under the pressures of overseeing the in-residence Corps. She would just show up and brighten my day. I saw her name on the memoriam list the other day and was deeply saddened by our loss. Many kudos Vanessa at the bema on my behalf.

    Thanks Chere for the update.

  • Bless you and thank you for your kind words, Carol.
  • Thank you so much, John. God bless.
  • I am sorry to hear of your loss but you did a good thing by honoring her life with a poem. I just made a link to this poem on her name in the In Memoriam page. When someone clicks on her name they will be brought to this page to read your poem. Thank you.
  • WOW, She was some person! I wish I had met her. She sounds like the kind of person that enriches your life whenever you talked to her
  • You're very welcome, but I'm afraid it doesn't come close to the kudos she deserves.
