It sounds like it was a lot of fun. and helped a lot of young people. I don't wanna even begin to tell you what I was doing in 1970 but it wasn't good at all I can tell you that. Surprised I am still alive.
I, too, was impressionable and was being "impressed" by a host of other activities, most of which were illegal. I should have stumbled upn this place. I needed it desperately.
Me too, still have my 1973 Bullinger Bible I purchased there at the bookstore. In the front it has my address as 2007 East 5th.
Lot's of great memories.
Also Foster Smith and Trish (later Smith) who was Doug's sec. Peter Woolley, Don Walter and a host of crazies.
What a wonderful time to be young, reborn and righteous.
TWI bought the G-ville house in 1968 and John and Mary Somerville were the first ones to live there--for one year, during which time Mike Tomberlin, Bob and Dottie Moynihan, Earl Burton and Bob Lindfelt were among those who took "the class." Pat and I moved there in september of 1969 right after we got married, and lived that first year with Sally Clay Martin, Linda Brown Schmehl, and Marcia Faulk Green. My daughter, Christine, was born in July, 1970 at the Pitt County Memorial Hosp. The second year we were there, Earl Burton, Ian Murphy, George Hendley, Duke Clarke, Sonny Culbreth, and Gerald Wrenn were our boarders. When we left in June, 1971 to open The Way of Indiana, the Moyhihans moved in as the curators, followed later, I believe, by Doug and Connie Emerson. The garbage can platform that I built in 1970 is no doubt still there.
Your excitement at seeing it again was palpable in your e-mail. Thanks for sharing these photos. I will never forget the rush of speaking in tongues in the last session of the class in the BRC there. I could feel the power and the presence of the Holy Spirit in that room.
Hearts were knit together there, people healed, signs, miracles and wonders occurred as people trusted God --- those were amazing times.
Kind of a shame the house is in a state of disrepair- it was always immaculate, but then it was people and the power of God working in them that made that place special.
Thanks for taking that detour and for posting the photos. Much appreciated!
It looks smaller than I remember it. I took PFAL in the attached...what was it, a renovated garage? So many coffeehouses with Duke Clarke...and others each week. John Lynn's family had just moved from there to Indiana when I took PFAL in ''71. This was the first place I met Dr. Wierwille personally and he encouraged me to sign up for the second wave of WOW ambassadors. I went and my life was changed. When I returned to Greenville, married to Chris, Doug and Connie Emerson were Limb leaders and they lived there with Foster Smith, and I think Sonny Culbreth and Ian Murphy. So long ago...I may have names and events mixed up. It was a great place!
"I had the opportunity to route our trip through Greenville, NC. I just had to find The Way Home at 2007 East Fifth Street. When I saw it...it brought back so many, many, many memories.
As I am sure that it will for you too.
What a great home that was!
How many lives were changed on these grounds?
Lots of Corps passed through this home...either got into The Word there...were residents of The Men's Home...or served their interim year there...or lived there with their families...
God's Word was taught here for many years!
I just loved seeing it again...
Thought that you would like to see it too!
Thanks for posting this Michelle. I have heard a lot about this place. Maybe some who lived there will share about its history. Was it near ECU? Who owned it? What did it start out as, a Way Home? Later the Limb Home? Here is an excertpt from the email you sent me about it. I hope you don't mind that I copy it here.
