About Me

After graduating with the 10th Way Corps I spent a year in Utah. Houk and I got married in 1983 and spent several years in California - first in the Bay Area and later in southern CA. We moved to Houston in 1988 where we have been ever since (less a 1 year stint back in CA). We have the joy of teaching God's Word and overseeing fellowships here. We are so thankful for the joyful privilege of serving God's Word and having such wonderful believers to fellowship with. They are awesome. We have 2 sons, Dave and Rob, who are both currently in college. They love God and walk with Him and are a delight to our hearts. We also have 2 black labs - (one is really a person in a dog's body). We are immeasurably thankful to God for His grace, mercy and lovingkindness toward us. God is so good. And we have so much to be thankful for that it is overwhelmning. So glad that our Father is so gracious, kind and merciful and that our Lord Jesus Christ freely gave so that we can know who we are in Him and walk in it. What grace!

My Interests

Learning and growing in God's Word. Being a part of ministering His Word and grace to people. Speding time with those I love. I also enjoy reading and sewing.

Employment or Career

Houk is a minister here and has a part time window cleaning business. I have a business sewing custom window treatments. I love it.

Music I Like

Most kinds (except country - Houk wonders where he went wrong!) In addition to music written by believers, I like classic rock, rhythm and blues, old Motown, some classical. I love Anna Cushingham's CD. It is amazing.

Books I Like

God's Word. There is nothing else that joys and rejoices the heart like when God opens the "eyes of our understanding" to some truth in His Word, is there? I also enjoy mysteries and historical romances. I liked Robert Tannenbaum a lot until he switched ghost writers. Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series is belly laughing funny. Some inspirational books. I think "Christy" is my favorite book.

Television I like

The Closer and Monk.

Movies I like

Pride and Predjudice (the most recent one - 2006?) Bourne movies, latest Die Hard...suspense, some comedies.

Hi Sheila - thanks so much for your comment. I sure enjoyed talking to you that night on the phone for an hour. I was just getting ramped up but it was 2 hours ahead where you were, and you had to politely end the conversation.

God has blessed both of us w/wonderful families--great husbands and children. My mom used to tell me how wonderful Houk was for the area. I don't think I ever had the opportunity to get to know him. I know Jim sure talks highly of him as well for his service to Texas.

Oh-I believe Tracey Adams told me hello from you as well. Thanks for staying so sweet on the Word and faithfully serving God's people. You are the best!

So neat to see pictures of your sons--so handsome.

Oh by the way, I put the picture of our sailboat on line to see if any other believers share in our enjoyment for sailing. Maybe we could meet them in the Bahamas or something cool.

Hi Sheila, I remember you but I think it was from our final year in res. I started with the 9th Corps and finished with the 10th. I can't remember exactly, but I remember spending time together, maybe at HQ or something. I also remember when Houk started going by Houk. When the 9th Corps started in '78 I thought his name was Robert or something. Anyway, all these memories are starting to become clearer. The most important thing is that we still love God and Jesus Christ is still Lord in our lives. Amen......Take care........ Jeff
