"Sarah, that would be a great idea. I have seven high school seniors who all speak and understand English pretty well, but are struggling with the writing and reading. We are working on it. Email me with the names and email addresses of your kids and…"
"Hiya, The machine translators make some really funny and entertaining translations, but basically understandable. Thanks for loving me enough to make the effort. My own personal Spanish stinks...my verbs are horrid. It isn't an easy language. Just…"
"Hi Ed, Sooooooooooo good to hear from you. I've got a picture of you somewhere on my computer from our ski trip to Crested Butte. I'll look for it. luv ya, m"
"Great! There are some excellent Spanish schools here, one run by the Red Cross (Cruz Rojo) and they all have programs where the student can stay with a family for immersion. Of course you could stay here. My kids are very good at immersing people.…"
"Yep, Spanish is the language. Most of my kids speak English at least as some level. The start English classes with me as soon as they join the group. Did you say you came here? Or was that a typo? If you can remember your friend's name and find out…"
"Hi Russ, So good to hear from you. I mostly love what I've been doing for this decade or so, but have very much missed contact with adult believing believers. This site has been a tremendous blessing for me as I'm certain for lots of us. Give Lisa a…"
"Hiya, Yep still in Nicaragua. The ministry is growing as fast as the kids themselves are growing. My house rocks with almost continuous teen activity. I close and lock the doors on Sunday and turn off the cell and demand they allow me that one day a…"
"The future's already here regarding dvds....Flash drives. Tiny and cool. I have two 4mg flash drives that hold everything a whole box of dvd discs would hold. And you can add, delete, re-sort, whatever, without even having to have an application.…"
"Ron, your words are spot on. I think my corps started with 300 and graduated about 50 less than that, but the person who graduated and affected my life the most was me. Every morning when I step into the cold shower, I thank God for my corps…"
"Gosh it's a small world. I lived on Long Beach island before I came to Nicaragua. In fact one of my novels (yet to be published) takes place mostly there. You should come visit some time. You'll love the kids. They are crazy like you. :) And crazy…"
"So Mark, did you make that trip to India with my nephew, Jon? We are working on him to come to Nicaragua next year and film the great family gathering when all the kids' sponsors come down for a visit."
Hi Mickey,
Gosh! Thank you so much for such a lovely long reply. I'm glad the translations made you laugh. Sometimes I think that is the best part about trying to communicate in another language - it can be quite comical!
I have been homeschooling my two sons for most of their "school" life. A few years ago they began learning Spanish, using a Rosetta Stone program. That was a short-lived effort - but I reckon we could try again. :-) Since then we've been learning Latin... s-l-o-w-l-y!
Your work is admirable. I find it challenging to simply work with two boys in a country where so much is readily available. It seems to me - after a look at the website you set up a link to - that your children are eager to learn and do their best. It's very, very refreshing to see.
I wonder if it would be possible for the kids to send email "letters" from time - we could learn more about Nicaragua and you could all ask us questions about Australia. What do you think?
Have a super day.
Lots of love, Sarah
I just might come down. One of my life goals is to speak spanish fluently. I have a friend who goes to Mexico every year and lives witha family and takes classes for about a month. It is a dream of mine to do something similar. Going to see you would make it extra special. I will have to look into that possibility...Won't be this summer but I am certainly open to the possibility.
I will let you know my friend's name. You know how age has a way of causing the memory to go.
I have an aqaintence who had been our middle school principle that move down there last summer. His name escapes me at the moment....anyway. I went down there for missions. Do they speak spanish there?
Wow! Its been ages. I trust all is well for you. I am in Myrtle Beach, SC working in Property Management. Its neat seeing what you are involved with. I do some work for an orphanage in Peru but usually only get there once or twice a year.
HEY MICKEY!!!! WOW IT HAS BEN AGES HUH?????So jpow are you doing..I ama really seeing the greatneass of how yje life of Jesus was an esatern one..After going to India s part of a documnetary for a movies(to be realeased soon) I have come to an epiphany of truth and approach of really seeing the principles of the word unfolding with yoga/medition/study and peace pf mind...an epiphany, if you will>>Great insight and a taste of what i belive the way corps was trying to be and teach, with cp3 especially...very thought provoking no doubt...what are your sentimenst/objectives with the children you are with......
