"It is something that we both ended up homeschooling. I wonder how far away you are from us. I can't see how to send you a message here, but if you're near the south of Maine, perhaps we could meet up sometime in the summer or something."

Do you…"

  • I can't place Karsten, but I know I should be able too Yes there is money to be made painting, the trades in general, and they are rewarding I show up here in spurts. It is so amazing to see us all after all these years.
  • Karin Paetkau , PAETKAU if I miss pronounced it I'm sorry, old habits die hard!! I'm certain you're doing well as only a Canadian, strong willed woman can. I seeyou smiling face inmy mind and I, m reminded of the class and grace with which you carried yourself, despite your peers (me) and how silly I was. I'm sure you're a good Mom and a great teacher, but there's no replacement for getting out there and living life, even if it means making mistakes or geting your face washed with snow. If only you could feel the rejuvinated joy I'm feeling right now! Do you remember your practicum year with Bill, Denis and _______, when I wrassled you down in your back yard and gave you that face full of snow? OH to live life that simply again eh?
Be well, be happy, and give all of your love to your loved ones, including the guy who gave you that cool new last name...KID Land, I'm happy for you.

  • Well back then I wasn't into the math and science. I had an interest in the fields but I was told I didn't need to go to college and needed to go WOW, and while WOW I was told I should go into the Way Corps, so I didn't go to Stephens Tech and went in the corps.

After marriage, divorce, 3 kids and open heart surgery to remove a tumor from my right ventricle I decided to finally do what I always wanted to do and went to college. I have 3 more semesters and I will have the Mathematics degree. I would have never done this while I was still in the ministry.

So how old is your daughter. Home schooling is good but I tutored a couple of home schooled kids and found that there were some habits that weren't developed well. Many kids took their tests and referred to their books and notes. That wasn't good for future college habits that would need to be formed. If you do decide to home school you really have to keep an eye on the habits.

Also consider the social aspect. As there are organizations that will allow you to give her the social aspect of school but it's still not the same. I know you will do what is best for her situation. Every kid is different.
  • thanks for the sweet message Karin. How have you been?
  • Hey Karin,
Good to hear from you! How is life?
I have to second Syndi in her rememberance of you! Is it a Canadian thing? I have lots of Canadian friends now and they are much the same as you. Maybe I just admire and respect those qualities that you have.
Life for me is full and I don't spend as much time on this thing as I'd like. One thing, I have to compete with my kids for computer time!
I have 13/14 corps relatives that live in CT. Are you near there?

  • Karin,
I hope you haven’t changed too much, because you were a breath of fresh air. Your vivaciousness, wit, and honest straight forward personality were what I remember about you. And a great big heart. We were unlikely room mates, but we did love each other!

I was the wild one, that never wanted to get out of bed in the morning. Now I work from 7-2 every day. I’m out of the house with my 6 year old by 6:45 every morning, I live real close to work.

I will find that poem and send it to you through your private Email.
    Mine is SyndiTeuber@comcast.net
    God bless you my sister,

  • I understand about the daily thing, life is already pretty demanding. I don't have any pics of the little remodel posted, and yes I am a painter. Kevin Smith was my family coordinator when I was WOW, his interim year, and he taught me to paint some. Still at it all these years later.I am thankful for that. Painting has been a wonderful outlet for me, physically active, and immediate gratificatying, I am off to the needs of the day. Take care.
  • Welcome!!! I am great. Just trying to stay busy working and fixing this little house I live in. Warm and sunny here :-) Life has had it's twist and turns, funny how we have gravitated here. I think it is really neat. Nice to connect. Those years were so formidable for me as I am sure for all of us to some degree. Say hey, when you can. My correspondence is not always punctual.
  • Hi Karin,
So wonderful to hear from you.
I recently found and read a poem you wrote for me when we were room mates at Emporia. I should find it and read it to you. You were so sweet, and I am happy to hear from you.
