John Catlin commented on Michelle Hershey Poccia's photo
"I wish I could have seen this place back then. I lived in Greenville, NC during my Apprentice year in the Way Corps back in '92. Cool stuff!"

John Catlin replied to John Richeson's discussion In Memory of Skip Mesquite
"The only comfort we have in all of this is that Jesus Christ will return. My deepest condolences go out to his family. I knew Matt & Tiffany personally from Teen Summer School back in the late 80s. I remember going to a Takit-In and seeing them…"

"Tommy!!!!! Dude - Good to hear from you! Howzit, brah? Yep, the very same Catlins! Last we saw you my dad was still stationed at Pearl Harbor. They were there for 4 years. I see that you're still there now. I actually work for a company that is…"

"Hey there Steve-O. I like the sports teams you have listed! Yes, you're spoiled living in the Boston area. I'm stuck here in Baytown where the Astros are fairly mediocre, the Rockets make things interesting, but don't get too far, and the Texans . .…"

"And if you're into cool mascots, here's one you should check out: Wally, the Green Monster. He rocks. Therefore, logically, you should root for the Boston Red Sox."

John Catlin left a comment for Jerry and Margie McSherry
"I grew up in L.A., but my favorite player growing up was Jim Rice. Then, because we had a couple of PFAL grads playing for New England it became easy to root for them (and it was finally rewarded in 2001!). I was never too much into hockey though.…"

"Atlanta Braves? Not crazy about them either. Actually, I should modify my favorite teams a bit. First, of course, are the Red Sox. Running a close second for my favorite baseball team is anyone playing the Yankees on any given day."

John Catlin left a comment for John Richeson
"John,
Thanks for the warm welcome! Though I'm not sure how many people graduated from the Corps before I was born. I was born in 1970!

It was great to see your name. I distinctly remember a page and a half paper you wrote about your experience as a…"

  • 1970! Well there are a few I believe like maybe some of the 1st and 2nd Corps who were in residence about that time or a few years later when you were 2 and 3 years old, ha, ha.

Yeah, that paper I worote was called "I Got Out". You see, I wrote that at the time of the horrible deprogramming era going on in The Way and other groups. It was actually a personal letter I wrote to Dr. Wierwille because I felt sorry for him, getting trashed in the media right and left.

It's hard to believe it (deprogramming) even existed but it did. My letter (later he made it a paper) was in defense of the ministry and an attempt to say "how can they call us a cult when any number of other mainstream religions could be called the same".

It was a bit harsh and I am not as critical of other people's religions as I was back then. There are religions (cults) today which make the Catholic church seem mild in comparison. You do not have to think very hard to know which ones fit that category. They are frequently on the news blowing things up.

Furthermore, the Catholics were not among those accusing The Way of being a cult. It was other so called born again Christian movements who disliked TWI the most is seems. And lets not forget, some of our cult labeling, in hindsight, was brought on ourselves by being a little too brash, bold and smug towards other fellow Christians. (I am speaking of how some of us were decades ago.)

But yeah, for the record I still dislike the Catholic church very much on so many levels I do not know where to begin. But I will leave it to others to decide if they are a cult or not.

Glad you guys are doing well. I am truly glad you are here. Let me know if you need anything.
  • Hi John, you left out The Boston Bruins...Hey not for nothing, but nowhere in your profile does it mention you spending any time in the Northeast????
Where did this attraction for boston sports come from??? Just between you and me when my Yankees and Mets are out of it, i've been known to root for
the RedSox as well...GOD Bless, JerryBaseBall
  • I think there was an oversight, the Atlanta Braves were not mentioned. I am sure that when you realize that one hit wonders are like dew on the grass, you will see the Atlanta Braves endured and conquered most of a decade.

I like the Patriots, but am more of a Bronco fan.

John, I am giving you a hard time, and we'll catch up again after the All Stars.........

Ok, I give you that the Red Sox had a couple of stupendous years.......

Go to my page, last song on my playlist, see what you think.

  • Hey John.

  • Welcome John. I may have met your parents somewhere along the trail. We are old like them, ha, ha.

I hope you can enjoy some of the rich history of some of the past Way Corps members here, many of whom graduated Way Corps training before you were even born.

Thanks for coming. Say hi to your parents for us. Let me know if I can help you with anything whatsoever. God bless you.
