  • Elaine,

I love you so much! I just saw your comment; you are still so good at being funny.

One of the things that I will always remember about you is an incident while we were roomies at Emporia. I'd just stood up from my bed, having read a letter from my mother that said my dear, dear Grandmother had passed away. I hadn't been informed of the funeral, which had been a week earlier, because my mother had thought I was out of town. I was devastated. You hugged me, and I felt a physical, palpable wave of force, a comforting power, pass from your torso to mine. I remember how it felt to this day, almost thirty years later.

That, and you were a blast to hitchhike to Lightbearers with. Remember the time we didn't even have time to set our suitcases down on the side of the highway, as another truck pulled up almost before the last one had pulled back onto the road? Fastest hitchhiking trip ever.

And, of course, the hundreds of incidental conversations in day-to-day Emporia-ness. It was great to be roommates with you.

You will always be one of my favorite friends, regardless of whether we've seen one another in decades. It's just the kind of thing that time doesn't alter.

See you around the site! Vickie

  • Jim!

Welcome to the site. My love, love, love to Elaine. One of the blankets we woke up under this morning was the white thermal that she sent for our wedding, 13 1/2 years ago. I think of her often when washing and folding it! Have a great day, and I hope that you have fun reconnecting with folks here.
What an amazing journey to Grandparenthood. My best to your sweet daughter, and prayers for a wonderful delivery and a healthy baby.
    Love, Vickie
