About Me
I am 36 years old...been out of the ministry since I was 16. I am married with 2 beautiful adopted children, Layne, 3 and Eli, 1 year old. My husband and I are residential building contractors, and own a flooring company, and natural stone fabrication shop. I have had a wonderful life post Way but often wonder about the people with whom I share my childhood memories with.
My Interests
I have little time for personal interests, though I love the Caribbean and traveling any where there is water! I love live bands, and kaoroke bars. The French Quarter is a great escape for me. My passion, besides my children, is decorating. I, apparently wasted many years in the wrong field, and now am exploring what really excites me.
Employment or Career
I spent many years in the mental health field so I am adept in this area..go figure. I married a nurse who decided flooring was his interest so we started our own company and have expanded into natural stone fabrication. We stay extremely busy as we also build houses on the side. Our kids are the center of everything. They are truly God sent. It was a long hard road for us to start a family but we are so very thankful and happy with the results!
Music I Like
Alternative, 80's old and new rock!
Books I Like
Mysteries..James Patterson, Patricia Cornwell, Tess Geritsen.
Television I like
Nip Tuck....Grey's Anatomy
Movies I like
Anything with Mark Wahlberg, or Leonardo DiCaprio....oh, and Al Pacino and other italian mobster types. I forgot Brad Pitt...after all, he is the father of my daughter!
Sports Teams I like
LSU Tigers!!!!

Have a hugely fabulous birthday!!
You are probably wondering who I am (at least as far as my last name is concerned)…
Well, I used to be Joe Hanson.
(Depending on just how far back we go, you might have already figured that out!)
About 17 years ago, I had my name legally changed back to the name I was born with…
Joseph Sebastian Purpura III
Although it is a very long story, Hanson was the last name of my then step-father Jim.
I had always expected that I would change it back some day!
There is much I can say (regarding what I have been up to) for the past 20+ years, but as to not sound redundant, just check out my info page (I just updated it with more stuff)…
http://waycorps.ning.com/profile/JoePurpura
On that page, you will also find photos from “the good old days”!
I will be adding more and more pictures as I have time to scan them (so check back often – by the time I am done, there will be a large number of them – I AM TALKING DOZENS!).
I had pretty much lost touch with everyone from “the group” (that is, once I had moved to Seattle, back in 1987) and it had stayed that way…
That is, until I got a phone call out of the blue from Linus!
(It is quite the story how he got my phone number – his dad got a hold of my uncle – neither of us knew that they actually knew each other, let alone having each other’s email addresses).
Among other things, Linus told me about this “Way Corps” website.
Since speaking to Linus, I have also had a telephone conversation with Lester (Carver).
Him and his wife Vanessa (who by the way were married by Greg Bernardini, if you didn’t know) apparently have quite the brood (I forget how many, but I believe he said that they have like 5 or 6 kids).
He also told me that Lorenzo is the C.E.O. of a very large company out of Denver.
(And to think he went to the Berkley College of Music to become a musician – I wonder what happened?).
Lester and his family live in Indianapolis. If you want to email him (as far as I know, he is not currently on the Way Corps website yet), he is at…
artios357@usa.net
OH, BY THE WAY…
I just started this Blog (here on the Way Corps website). I call it…
JUNIOR CORPS STORIES (what really happened!)
It is my hope that you (and everyone else) will add stories to it!
The Blog address is…
http://waycorps.ning.com/profiles/blogs/junior-corps-stories-what#c...
There are only two rules concerning the submission of stories to this Blog…
BE THOROUGH and DEFINITELY DONT HOLD BACK!
(In other words, REALLY TELL IT LIKE IT WAS!)
I think you will enjoy reading the stories I have already posted (and keep checking back, I will be adding more stories as I have time for it).
Also, here is my address (I recently bought the house)…
Joe Purpura
301 East Birch Avenue
Ritzville, Washington 99169
(509) 659-0700
If you haven’t been to my info page yet, I just moved here from Seattle (that is after 22 years of being there), in part to concentrate on my writing!)
And my personal email address is…
joe@joepurpura.com
(Just be careful who you give this email address out to – so far this address has been spam free and I would really like to keep it that way – THANKS!)
Finally, (if you can) please say a prayer for my sister Suzanne, she was hit by a car recently and has been the hospital (she has already had 4 operations on her leg)!
Although she is not on this website, you can email her (and I know she would enjoy hearing from you!). Her email address is…
Suzanne.Belluardo@intusurg.com
You might also like to know that her and her husband Johnny just had their 2nd child (Michael) back in October (his older brother Matthew will be 6 in March).
Sue works in Robotics (the kind of Robot that surgeons use to operate on you). She started out as a Post-Open-Heart, I.C.U. Nurse (by graduating at the top of her class in Nursing School).
I AM QUITE PROUD OF HER!
I hope you have the time to either email, or post a message on my info page. I really look forward to hearing how things have been for you and yours.
Later,
Joe
So the last time I saw you, we were sitting around the tents at Corps Week and your dad came over and told you tell us goodbye because you were leaving. And just like that, you were gone. For good. And I never thought I'd see you or talk to you again. It is one of the most poignant memories I have from the disintegration of The Way and I am glad to finally hear from you again almost 20 years later.
Yeah, the Corps Week days were a blast and I had some long ass hair and it just got longer before it started falling out and I've shaved it ever since. Looks like you have a good life going for you and I'm happy to hear that. Since you just vanished so suddenly, I've always wondered how you were. Please post some pics when you have the time. Good to hear from you. Christian
