Hi Peggy,John Richeson asked me a question about the origins of the Special, Recognized, & Family Corps designations, & what follows is my response to him.But first, I'm wondering - I must know you from Rome City - I was there with the 1st year of the 6th Family Corps until Christmas. But do I also know you from NY? Are you originally from NY - maybe Queens or Long Island? Also, I see you say you were in "Recognized family corp 6." That's a much more descriptive name than simply "Recognized" or "Family." I mention in my response to John that the recognized corps program went up to about the 4th Recognized Corps, & that, after that, "recognized" went by the appellation "family." Do you remember - did the one year "recognized" go up to 5th & 6th or beyond that?I wish my memory was better - what's the use of having a party if you don't remember it in the morning? Thanks - not sure if this emoticon will work here, but, if not, it is me unrolling my heart I applied to the 5th Corps, but my application was misplaced. When the application was found, I received a call from HQ & was told the 5th was filled, but they were starting a new 1 year program for families, older folks, & others for whom a 1 year program would work better. I could either come in for that or wait a year & go in the 6th Corps. Well, I was going in the Corps - I had no alternative plan. I figured if God wanted me in more than 1 year, he would open that door. I think it was originally called the 1st Special Corps, but I'm not sure. That year, there wasn't really much of a difference between the Special/Recognized/Family Corps and the regular Corps. We did everything the regular Corps did, & we did it with them. The only difference I remember is that every once in a while we met on our own also.Somewhere during that year - '74-'75 - Dr. Wierwille told us -this new Corps (I forget the original name) that we had 3 programs we could choose from.We could:1) stick with the original 1 year plan & be called Recognized Corps,2) stay at HQ for 2 years & be called Special Corps, or3) go out on the field for a year & come back to HQ for a year & be called Family Corps.I opted for the Special Corps, but later in the year Dr. took that offering off the table. All who had become Special Corps were now Recognized Corps (we couldn't choose to go Family Corps at that point). If memory serves (I wouldn't take that one to the bank), Recognized Corps got up to about the 4th Recognized Corps before it was discontinued. Then Recognized 1, 2, 3, & 4 were designated Family 1, 2, 3, & 4 respectively. So that's the story from my perspective of the origins of the Special, Recognized, and Family Corps. The best is yet to come,Tom

• You have a better memory than I do! I think I was R-2 and Family Corps IV. How can I be both? I'll have to find my name tag!!! Blessings, Barbara Gluckin
• Thx. That's a piece of history that I didn't even know in the legal department (not that anybody had to run it through us, it's just we usually had a file somewhere that explained that stuff.)
