BLOGS

Blog or Article?

Blogs often focus on personal opinion, experiences, views, anecdotes or advice. Blogs tend to have a relaxed and conversational feel, such as in storytelling and are generally 300-500 words.

Articles aim to deliver well-researched, informative content with solid evidence to back up the points made.  Articles are usually more formal, organized and frequently range 500-1000 words.

John Niesz cooks up some of our own farm-raised beef and pork for a summer BBQ, afterwards, we set up an ersatz water slide for the kids.

  • I was trying to think of what they called John's department. I've got some more pics I need to post. Thanks for chiming in, it's nice to hear of others' experiences there at the campus.

The old guy, the local guy did used to do some stuff around there when we were there, I think he was pretty much retired, though.

I have no idea where either the Niesz family or the Kliewer family is today, but I pray that they're "pressed down," etc. blessed and happy.
  • Dan,
while I was in rez, they started naming off people's jobs, you know how they changed our jobs regurlarly, well they started calling of John's Department, Maintenance,
and sure enough at the end of the list they called Suzie Wickler!!
I'm thinking, well I know the difference between a phillips and a regular screwdriver,
this will be okay. All my f7 were as flabbergasted as me. We had a great crew of
guys whom I dearly loved and what is Suzie going to do in Maintenance??

anyway my job ended up being John's Secretary!! He had me answer the phones,
send out the guys on jobs and on friday go over to the kitchen and get coffee
and goodies for a 10am break!! It was a blast, I worked there 2 times (I forget
how it all went but I loved it. People always thought John was a hardass, and I would
say, "if he is so damn mean look at his tender wife Joy, how mean could he be?"
I bought a harley T-shirt when his Jason was born.
My Daniel was 2yrs old when I was in the corps. When it was bring your kids to work
day, John loved it, but my Daniel was afraid of Shunka (did he still have that dog when
you were there?) Anyway John was more talk than action.

And if there ever was a fire he suited up quicker than anyone.

Once the sump pump went off in the basement of the East side of the bldg,
I called John and he had to fix it, was glad I called him.

There was a local guy who also worked there, lived down the road and sold
shoes too. Did he retire before you got there?? I forget his name
(sorry its been 25 yrs since I was there)

anyway I wonder how John and Joy are doing,
I would love for you to tell me, maybe private??
I know they were w/Dr Rawlins and still in last I
heard, just wonder about them sometimes..

thanks for the pictures, I also worked once for
Tony, in Gardening. I think they too are still in?

    anyway fun pic's

    suzie
  • It was indeed tough during those years. Really tough. But that's what the more-than-conquerors thingy is for. Marvel not, brothers if your faith is tried. Believe me, it was for me and for many. And God was truly present with us in our difficulties. My thanks to the fine staff who loved us and shared their gifts with us.
  • These are great photos, Dan! Thanks for posting them. I don't know anyone but looks like a fine bunch. I like the spit-bar-b-q particularly in "Niesz with Don Stout, Family 13". That's some good lookin' meat! Your photos cast a dee-lightful iimage of 1987, a chaotic time in Wayferville to say the least. Nice to be reminded that people, families, parents and children were enjoying life together.
