  • We-l-l-l-l, initially I was only addressing the urban legend aspect of the original post. I worked in the dental field for a number of years, though. One of the worst cases of dental caries (cavities) I've seen was in a child. Her parents had put her to bed with a bottle of organic apple juice post- breastfeeding because they didn't want to give her pasteurized milk. By the age of two the fructose (fruit sugar) from the organic apple juice had eroded her teeth.

Genetics, bacteria, plaque, oral hygeine,( brushing and flossing... or not) sugar and diet all play a part in tooth decay. I don't have any vested interest in defending soda/pop/soft drinks. I don't drink any of them. I'm currently hooked on Celestial Seasonings Wild Berry (iced) tea and ice cold well water with a little lemon and stevia leaf sweetener.

However, there's more to tooth decay, IMO and IME, than simply drinking soda/pop/soft drinks in moderation. I'm off to the store. My husband wants Dr. Pepper for our 4th of July cook-out and he's busy cooking :) He hasn't had a cavity since he was 15, btw. Have a happy 4th, all!
  • I'm sure that I could be the petri dish for coke experiments. At work I seemed to be always grabbing a coke while I was doing any computer work. I'm not drinking as much as I used to though but it is still one of my favorite vices. I would rather drink Coke than eat Cauliflower and Broccoli Surprise. (11th and 9th Corps should understand what I am talking about. :) rotfalmao
  • Cokelore :) I don't drink coke. I've never liked it. However, part of the original post had the ring of an urban legend to it so I looked it up on Snopes. Status. "False." http://www.snopes.com/cokelore/acid.asp
  • I like the Nalgene too.
I've heard even you leave a bottle in a hot car it leaches and if you freeze the bottles it happens then as well.
Here in AZ we like to freeze our bottles so we have cold water a lot longer that's why I've switched.
    Glad you mentioned this
  • I have heard a lot of rumors about the BPA in bottles and what it does, My favorite is that Nalgene donated a million bottles to people over in china and women who were breast feeding stored breast milk in them. Baby boys suddenly started having a problem with enlarged testicles. It was traced back to the bottles and BPA was said to be the culprit as it was leaching out into the milk. as a result of this story Mountain equipment coop in Canada as well as REI later and then EMS started pulling the bottles from the shelves. Nalgene in response said that the water bottle division was less than 2% of their total sales and they could handle the blow. As far as I heard the problem was with bottles that had been in boiling water on at least one occasion and it was also the chemical reaction that certain liquids had with the lexan that causes it to start leaching.

    BTW, I'm drinking Milk
  • Check this link out...Drink this to fight fat....
  • If you are taking a vitamin B complex your urine will always be bright yellow, so I'm not sure that will always work. It doesn't for me.

Also if you are looking for supplements one of the best I know of, of course are mine that I sell, they are liquid, as well as the "Nature's Way", don't confuse this with "Nature's Made". Not all vitamins are equal. Some tablets not gel caps you can bury
and go back in months and it is still there. Gel caps and liquid are my choice.

Here is a link on liquid vs tablet.

Unfortunately our soil has been depleted of vitamins and minerals for so long
now that we definitely need supplements. I was just at a lecture about this with Donese
    Wordon MD ND

In my opinion it is all theory. So in our family we supplement
and take high levels of antioxidants. There are studies on my company and products, one 2 oz
dose raises the antioxidant levels 10% for 6 hours, and no other company can make that claim.

The whole goal in my mind for healthy aging is being pro active, the more you can study and do the
    better off you will be.

Here's to all of our health, and I find it very fascinating that we are interested in being our best.
  • Dr. Geiger is my husband, Tad.
They say to get 1/2 of your body weight in ounces everyday. I've also read 8 to 10 glasses.
I believe drinking juices, tea and water are all included in this.
  • Where do you find ph drops to test for acidity?
