  • Hi Bobby,

    Jim Ferraro
  • Hi Roberta, It's Mary McSherry from Whitestone, NY. My name is Mary Bergey now though. Do you remember me? I remember you when I first got into God's Word. You were a blast. I can't sleep so I thought I would just say hello. Bless ya, Mary
  • Roberta,

Thanks so much for your gracious comments regarding my book which you ordered. I was also delighted to be reminded that you had given me the Black Heritage Bible, which I still have. Many of my books are in storage. Brenda and I have downsized, moving from a house to condominium a few years ago. I cherish that particular Bible since I am a professor of African American literature, and my focus has been and continues to be the Bible and its use by Black writers. I have published a number of articles in African American literature where I examine the works of certain writers of color and how they use the Scriptures in their works. In fact, I received an email from a graduate student in Bagdad, and she had come across an article I had published in 1991 discussing Countee Cullen, one of the noted poets of the Harlem Renaissance, and his use of the Bible. She is writing her dissertation on a number of African American writers, one of whom is Cullen. You can imagine how blessed I was to receive her email and request for my comments regarding her work, just as I was thrilled to receive your comments regarding my book and the reminder about the Bible you had given me.

By the way, yours was the 100th comment I received on my Way Corps website. I wish I had a prize to give, but I don't right now. I'll think of some way to express my gratitude to you for your kindness.

It has been such a blessing to reconnect.

Let's keep in touch. By the way, I have a nephew who works for General Motors in Germany, in Munich I believe, but I'm not sure. In fact, my sister is visiting him at this time. I would love to get over to visit him, and perhaps visit with you and your family as well. Let's see what the new year holds as it unfolds in beauty like a lovely rose. Says the poet (C'est moi):

The budding rose never stays the same
    But unfolds in lovelier ways.

On that note I'll close for now.

    God bless,

    Lonnell

  • Hi, there,

Yes, indeed, I have published some of my poetry. In 2005 I established my own publishing company, Ambassador Press, among my first projects was publishing a collection of my own poetry STONE UPON STONE: PSALMS OF REMEMBRANCE. "Good News Day" is one of the poems in section called "In the Vernacular." You can order it through Barnes and Noble or Amazon.com or any bookstore for that matter (even in Europe, I would think).

Thanks for the kind words, Roberta. It has been such a joy to reconnect so many wonderful people who have come in and out of my life all along The Way.

Be blessed, for it sounds like you are indeed.

    Always,

    Lonnell
  • Dear Roberta:

Your husband might know Dorothy as Dorothy Setian. She was actually singing in the Opera House in Detmold. How she became a Christian while in Germany is quite a testimony. Dorothy grew up in Garden City, New York and worked in Manhattan for years.
Detmold has a very special place in her heart.

    God bless,
    Nolan
  • Dear Roberta:

I wanted to say hi! It has been such a long time since Emporia Kansas. I am always amazed at how our lives in the Way Corps led to so many varied adventures. Reading about the lives of other Corps grads is inspiring. My wife Dorothy (Family 7) went to her first Bible fellowship in Gemany and was born-again there. She was singing at the opera house in Detmold. Dorothy and I met at headquarters and married in 1983. We have two sons 19 and 22 who are attending university.
