"Hi Mike! Of course I remember you well, the whole family. I can't recall the staring contests but that sounds like something I would do! It is great to hear from you. How are the rest of the Lorence family members?

"Hi Steve, I don't remember you either but that is probably b/c I was 2-4 years old when we were in residence with F9. My mother is Darlene Allinder, then Parker. And I have a sister named Michelle but she would have been only 4-6 years old. I'll ask…"

"No, I don't know the Mathis'. If they were in F17 we were actually in residence with F18 and F19. But technically we were F17--just back with my new step-father to finish his residence. What is a giggle mean?"

  • Oh, and yes, I grew up in the DC area. Bethesda Maryland to be exact. And My first twig was in Bethesda proper, but I also hung out with all the believers in the branch which had twigs in Kensington, Wheaton, Silver Spring, and Rockville, MD. What's your Dad's name?
  • Yeah, Unalakleet was cool fer sher. I also got to try some delicacies there like Beluga "muk tuk", "Eskimo ice cream" and chum salmon the way they do it. One time, I also had a musk ox steak, but not in Unalakleet, but rather, in Ninilchik. Very very good. Best wild game I ever had, mainly because of it's uniqueness.Tops for me is still elk, and I like caribou better than moose. Dall Sheep is also very very good. Down here we have abundant Sitka black tailed deer, and the tender vittles that they eat here in the rain forest makes them even better than the proverbial "corn fed" deer of the Mid West.

And so, the salmon season is in full swing! Chums galore, pinks jumping everywhere, and Cohos in the salt for trolling. The Kings have faded out by now and are in spawning mode, but still make for an excellent fight on a fly rod. That's one thing about Southeast that we love. Lots of fresh bright salmon, and crab and shrimp straight from the sea. Mmmm...

And so, I trust your summer up north is going well? Sounds like it. Have a great day!

  • Jennifer,

You were one of my favorite kids in the Family Corps! You and I used to have stare down contests - and you always won. I've know your mother, Darlene, since the early '70's and of course we were in the Way Corps F9 together. Our kids are Keri and Nathan - both who live in the Chicago area where we are at.

    Take care!

  • Hey Jennifer, so cool that you work on the musk ox farm! I think I would be happy to have some kind of a Unalakleet hat or something. I worked out there for awhile putting up housing for the Yupik folks out there. In fact, I worked in a bunch of different villages and it was way cool. I have a friend in Unalakleet, an old Eskimo man by the name of "Mugsy:" He was a hard drinker, but because I took interest in him and talked to him of his culture, he would aways show up at our rental house (crew quarters) after work and ask the guys; "Where's Kevin"? And when the guys would tell him that I was till finishing up on whatever I was doing but that I'd be in soon, he'd say; "Oh". And then a few minutes later, he would say; "So...Where's Kevin"? And taht would continue until I'd finally show up and he'd say; "Oh, there's Kevin! Hey Kevin, I have some whiskee! Do you want some"? And I would always take an obligatory pull, and we would sit and talk. Lots of his interest was in what it was like for me growing up back east just outside of Washington, DC. Anyway, One of these times I'll have to buy one of those "Unalakleet quiviut hats....

Hey, I hafta git going. Have a great day! And oh yeah, I see that you like bluegrass. So do I! Cool...
  • I thought since you lived in Palmer you attended Frontier Christian Ministries fellowship in Wascilla. When I get the tape or now CD, I always hear giggling at his jokes, hence, the assumption, which giggle are you?
  • OH Ok, I totally remember your mom and her little girl(s). That makes sense. Thanks!
